What's new

Two new watches join the collection

Nothing greatly special about them except I really like the look of both of them.

First is a Paneri homage. I'm not a fan of fakes so I made sure that the one I got has a sterile dial and no branding on the case. I went for the 45mm case and it runs the Chinese Seagull automatic movement. I really like the simplicity of this watch. There are people on homage watch forums doing some great work to make up vintage versions of these watches.

Second is a Sandoz Day / Date. Terrible ebay photo but I think that's why I got it for a very good price. I really like the day / date format of this watch. It runs a Swiss ETA 2836-2 movement.

Nice John. I've been looking at, and really appreciating those unbadged Paneri and Parnis Chinese watches, especially the flieger style ones. I find them simple and stylish. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on how reliable and accurate yours proves to be.

Damn you alcomahol, I just placed an order. I'll leave the face palm until tomorrow.

I do find those sterile dials really attractive, though.

It's funny. I sometimes get some compliments at work on my regular wear watch. But then I question, do they really think it looks nice, or do they just recognise the badge as being pricey? Then the anti-snob in me wants to wear the mickey mouse watch, which watch I bought at Disneyland for a goof, the next day.

The older I get the more I hate labels. I'm prepared to pay for quality, but I just don't want to brand myself.

If my sterile Chinese watch keeps good time I'll be very happy.

I read a few of the watch forums and no one really had a bad word to say about the Seagull movements. A number of people report +/-2 secs a day.

I bought a flieger style with a hand wound movement. I guess if I am winding it every day it is not a big deal to make a minor time adjustment while I am at it, if need be.

A very nice pair of watches. As far as Chinese movements go, I bought a Shanghai recently and it is excellent in all respects. It was surprisingly hard to find a vendor in Shanghai - everyone wants to sell you a real Swiss watch for about 50% more that they cost in the US.

I like that PAM rep, where'd you order that from? There's a guy who goes by Davidsen that does a lot of nice reps and gets a ton of praise on the forums

I just picked it up off ebay. I've seen some of the high spec Pan homages sell for almost the price of some real ones.

I looked that these also but I talked myself out of purchasing a Parnis. They look great but I think the school is still out on the quality.

Hey Jonh, how's your Chinese watch performing? Mine arrived today, and my first impressions are very positive. It looks and feels quite high quality. We'll see how accurate it is over time. It is rather on the large size for my skinny wrists, though. It has just a fraction bigger case size than my Omega SMP, but because of the lack of a bezel it wears larger, visually.

The transparent back is cool. I get hypnotized watching the workings do their thing.

It's keeping excellent time. It's 5 secs a day fast. Mine also looks very big on my wrist. 45mm is probably too big for me but I do like the watch.

Mine seems to be about eight seconds slow. Pretty happy with that for the price.
