Two horrible shaves...

After steadily improving my shaves since I started DE shaving two months ago, I just had two really bad shaves. The latter of the two was REALLY bad. Lots of blood. What I can not understand is why this happened. I have not changed anything in the routine. My only theory is that I might have gotten a bad blade. I use Lord Super Stainless at the moment, and they are usually very good and consistent. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I have not had the problem, but many here have said that an occasional bad blade, or batch will rear their ugly head. Hopefully this is the situation. Just to be safe, go easy on the next one. Good luck, larry

Yes, it's happened to me where all of a sudden I got a bad shave. Bad blade, bad technique, who knows? I let my face rest and the shaves got better. Stick with it.

I am back on track after letting my face rest for two days. Probably I just got a bad blade. Shaving this morning was the usual enjoyable experience. Thanks for all the positive energy.

Good to hear! I just shaved with a Lord Super Stainless for the first time today, and it's now my second favorite after the feather.

It's absolutely possible to get a bad blade from any manufacturer (some more than others). You will get to the point where you will feel it in the first few strokes; when that happens, just change it out then and there.

Actually I use a TTO razor (a 60´s Gillette Slim Twist). I will pay some extra attention to that. Thanks!

Change out your blade. It is possible that you got a dud

Hi there,
my first post ever - been DE shaving for about nine months.
My experience is that with consistent technique, taken time over the shave, etc etc bleeding is now very rare.
What's very important is to have a sharp blade. So change your blade after a few shaves they are quite cheap. I have been using no-name Israeli blades, Merkur, a Korean make, Feathers, and not come across any bad ones so far.
Don't forget: lots of hot water, shaving oil, allum block.
All the best!
Klaus

One thing that I have noticed for about the last 7 or 8 months is that if the skin on my face is dry, I get really bad shaves. I have started using a really good hand cream on my face the night before and, everything else being equal, the shaves went from pretty bad to excellent. I am sure that one could use a good moisturizer but give it a try.

Take Care,
Richard

I haven't been at DE shaving for too awful long, but this happens to me sometimes also. I think what happens, at least in my case, is that I get too confident in my abilities and think that I can blaze through the shave. I end up going to fast and shredding my face. I'm still working on it :tongue_sm

I don't know if that's your problem also, but it might be worth looking into.

Yes. After a few months of improvement I was pretty much shaving cut free all the time, alternating between Gillette Bleue Extra and Astra blades. All fine for weeks and then one day I put in a new Gillette Bleue Extra blade and the shave was the worst ever, worse than my very first DE shave, with about a dozen cuts and a red raw neck. I gave the blade a second chance wth a different soap and had more or less the same experience. So I binned the blade and put a new one in and hey presto I was back to smooth, cut free, irritation free shaves. I concluded that its definitely possible to get a bad blade.
