Turkish stone

I had put this in another thread but decided to make a separate thread for it.

This morning I took the same razor and took it to the lapping film, 5-3-1 um then to this Turkish stone with a slurry. I generated the slurry with a 600 dmt and did a full diluticot using circles till I got to water only. It improved the 1 um edge. Even off the slurry I was getting good hht results. After just water, 50 x strokes, the hht results were a good 3+ . After stropping, man I'm getting some super nice results.

I've only used a few Thuri stones so I don't feel I'm qualified to make a comparison.

I'll do another shave today with the edge off this stone but I'm expecting a great shave.

It's kind of early to give a good answer Tony. I'm still in the very early stages of using the stone. One thing is for sure; it is a lot softer stone.

Wid, i tried lapping films (9-5-3-1um) and i didn't like the edge after my hones.
so can we tell this turkish hone is about 15+k? what is your estimation?

I'd have to guess some where in there Okzan. It is definitely well above 12K I'd say.

Jarrod, it was found in a hardware store in a small town in Turkey. Yes it is a quarried stone.

I can't say it's real soft but certainly it is softer than the translucent stone. I'd say it is about the same as the La Grise I had.

I've only used water and it is fine with it so far.

Here area few more pics.

A Tnat!

Goes to show that great edges can be had off of all kinds of rocks. :thumbup1:

Looking to get a slurry stone for this hone. Would a Cnat slurry stone work?

Rick I've always heard as long as the slurry stone is harder than the base stone it would work. Nice stone.

I had the same train of thought.

I had a chance to shave with the razor I finished with this stone. The resulting shave was a very close, comfortable shave.

Well today I received a Cnat slurry stone to use with this Turkish stone. So of course I had to try it. Today I had honed up a Henckels 415 on a DMT 325/600 then to a chosera 1K then on to a coti doing full diluticot. Once I had the razor "shave ready" I took it to the new Turkish stone using the cnat slurry stone.

This time I did far less dilutions and then only 25 x strokes. What I ended up with was a really keen but yet smooth edge.

I think this stone is a bit faster than I had anticipated. Still trying to find the sweet spot.
