TSA and safety razors

Hey guys I am taking a trip tomorrow for a wedding and need to take a razor. I looked on the TSA sight ans it says safety razor is ok for carryon but blades are not so does that mean I can't have a blade in my razor? If so what should I what is a good alternative I can take to shave with?

Honestly, I don't have the slightest clue what I'm talking about, so you'd be best not to take any advice from the likes of me!
It's all I can do to just avoid posting something which will get me booted off this site!

Yes. Don't even try it.

You have 3 options:
1) Check your bag with blades and razor (you might want to check this thread, though)
2) Pack a DE with no blade in your carry on, and buy blades when you get there. Wal-mart and most pharmacies in the US carry them.
3) Bring a cart. When I have to fly and am not checking a bag I'll pack a couple of Bic sensitives. Cheap and pretty decent shaves.

Where are you headed? I'm sure there's at least one person here who is close by and willing to drop off a blade to your temporary lodging.

If you're flying in to San Antonio, I'd be happy to get you one-

Wow thanks for the offer but I'm heading to Annapolis. I think I am going to go the cart route and I just found out I can't take a cigar cutter with me WTH is up with TSA I think they are definitely the fun police lol.

Spot on answers given above. Best to pick up a pack when you arrive at any big box, drug store, etc. Or as has been mentioned just use a cart for the few shaves that will be needed.

Funny, I'm headed to Baltimore on Friday. I'm packing my straights though. One of the Active Duty perks- free bags on planes. Of course, now with sequestration, my trip is a permissive TDY rather than funded, but hey, at least I get free bags.

If you are going to a hotel or visiting friends, you can mail yourself a few blades in advance and not have to worry about trying to find a drugstore. Just another option.

Razor (w/o blade) in the satchel I carry on, blades in the checked bag. I don't mind losing some blades, but I am not gonna risk the razor.

However, I do recall some threads where the TSA folks had a problem with a DE razor even w/o blades, so nothing is ever for certain.

I wouldn't recommend trying to carry any razor blade on a plane.
Aside from the trouble it might cause you, think of the people waiting in line while security hassles you.

The SS is like the IRS - it depends on which agent you get. Unless you want to lose it, best to pack it in checked baggage or ship it ahead to your destination.

I straight shave so you can imagine how disappointed I am with my shaves when I travel

There are Rite Aid and CVS pharmacies all around Annapolis. Pack a razor without blades and get the blade there.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Oh wait, I did. From now on the razor goes in carry on unless I won't be able to get some where to pick up blades when I arrive. Then it's disposable razor city for me:001_rolle
