Trumpers Sandalwood Cigarette Scent?

I have read a number of reviews lately that say their Sandalwood smells like an ashtray. I kind of wanted to try it out, now I am skeptical. Any insight to this?

Never heard this. Are you speaking of the soap, cream, skin food, or AS/cologne? I don't pick up any smokiness.
The reviews I read were all on the cream. Most people say good things about the scent. I just thought maybe there was a point that the cream went bad or something and those people ended up with an expired tub. Anyway, wanted to try it but I don't want to get stuck with a tainted cream.

Just opened my tub of Trumpers Sandalwood cream. No smoky smell, certainly not an ashtray. Personally, I prefer T&H Sandalwood scent but there is nothing wrong with Trumpers. A quality product

Well, I'll guess I'm one of the few that says Trumpers sandalwood cream reminds me of an ashtray. Not smokey, just burnt ashes. It's heresy to say this around here but I get the same vibe off of Proraso sandalwood. It's not pleasant to my sniffer. On the other hand, I love T&H sandalwood and TOBS sandalwood, both of which are more cologne-ish in nature.

FWIW, Trumpers sandalwood skinfood smells completely different. In fact, it's my go to for a balm. Go figure...

I doesn't smell like an ashtray to me, it's hard for me to describe the scent but it is strong. It also smells different IMO from their sandalwood skin food and cologne. My advice order their sample pack, it's a great value.

I have a tub of Trumper sandalwood cream from about 2006 that I always thought smelled rather smoky. I wouldn't go so far as to say it smells like an ashtray or cigarettes - more like an old-money lounge, with dark woods and leather that have traces of cigar smoke impregnated in them from over the years. (I'm not saying I smell cigar smoke in the cream; it's more the images the scent conjures for me.) It's quite a dark smelling cream. It's the only product in Trumper's sandalwood line that smells that way. The shaving soap is much lighter and cleaner, and the cologne and skin food are different altogether.

My HBG Sandalwood A/S does smell like wood, but not ashes or an ash tray or cigarettes. Just a nice pleasant wood shop smell.

I did buy a tube of shaving cream once (not Trumpers and not a Sandalwood) that was clearly past its prime - smelled exactly like an ash tray.

I think something in the cream goes bad to take on this odor, and not any particular fragrance or manufacturer.
