Truefitt and Hill Thoughts?

Any general opinions on Truefitt and Hill shaving creams/aftershaves? I recently got one of their sampler packs (it was only 11 bucks for about 15 samples of their creams and balms).

I have since ordered a pack of their 1805 cream and aftershave, plus a bottle of their pre shave oil.

How is the later/scents/protection etc. in your opinion? Thanx for the input!

I also bought the sampler and loved the lime scented cream and after-balm. I'll be picking up more of those after I work through my current inventory. I got to smell their lime aftershave, but at $75 a bottle, that one will probably not come home to my shave den.

I have a tub of the 1805 cream which I bought blind. It's a good cream but the scent for me, whilst still quite pleasant, falls a long way short of some other creams I have (C&E Nomad, Pens BB, TOBS Jermyn St.) I imagine I will end up selling or PIF'ing it but will give it a few more chances to grow on me.

I'm a big fan of T&H creams. My particular favorite is their Ultimate Comfort and that is one cream I am never without. However, I also like their Grafton, 1805, and West Indian Lime.

Awesome fragrances, completely over priced. $75 for aftershave ? Really ?
The balms are cheaper, but I found them to be irritating.
The creams are on par with all the others, so no need to pay more for them, as the scent of a cream isn't going with you all day.

Good product, but not worth the money imho. I've got a tub of 1805 and the aftershave to go with it. However, it doesn't get as much use compared to my other creams. I don't think I'll be buying it in the future.

Grafton and 1805 are in my weekly rotation. Both creams and A/S's. They work very well for me and smell fantastic.
I did get lucky on the A/S's. The Grooming Lounge had them both on sale for $50 a bottle. Pretty good huh? I haven't check if the sale ended. Might want to check.

They're still on sale, but only Trafalgar ($45) and Grafton ($55).

As for T&H, their creams are very good. Can't say I've found anything noticeably better, but there are plenty that are just as good. What it really amounts to is scent. If they have a scent that you love, go for it. Their splashes really aren't much more than just scent, so it's really just about how much you like or have to have that particular scent.

IMO,the few T+H creams Ive tried are excellent.Specifically, their Ultimate Comfort and Rose. Both give me outstanding overall performance.

My rotation consists of T&H creams, Trumpers Violet, Floris and BB. I have rejected all other creams. T&H are better performers IMHO, than MdC, ADP, AOS and CF, and blow the doors off of drugstore crap.

T&H is reasonably priced compared to BB and Floris and cheaper than AdP

Their ASBs are fanatastic, I use Traflagar and Traflagar Cologne which is a wonderful scent, attractive to the ladies and long lasting. Equal in price to designer frags like Issey and Hanae and cheaper than Cartier Creed and BB and Floris, well worth it. Im not a big fan of their other colognes, but enjoy the cream based thereon.

I like their Rose and Ultimate Comfort, but they destroyed their original Sandalwood by making it full of cologne and not sandalwood at all, but I have bought their 1805 and Grafton, and while they make nice cologne scented creams, they no longer are among my favorite respected brands - but as with all Creighton made creams they perform nicely........

I prefer AOS & GFT creams by far over TF&H, incidentally all brands creams are made by Creighton.
I now rank TF&H along with TOBS - so TF&H are overpriced for what they deliver IMHO (since TOBS are half price of TF&H and deliver fine value for money, even though their creams are also too cologne scented just like the TF&H creams are)

I would take the cheaper Speick, Proraso and Musgo Real/O Melhor over TF&H shaving creams any day of the year......

TF&H's after shaves are also too cologne scented for my taste - so all in all, not such a huge fan although I own 4 of their shaving creams and Ultimate Comfort ranks in my personal Top 10 over my best performing shaving creams ever tested/owned

They should tone down their cologne scent in their Almond, Sandalwood and Lime and stay true to more natural scents.
Then continue with their 1805, Grafton and Trafalgar as their cologne scents creams.

As of now, only Rose and Ultimate Comfort are natural creams enough for me to enjoy them and own them.
As said I do own 1805 and Grafton creams - and they are fine, but not in my Top 20 over favorite creams that I own.....

Just saw your post AFTER I posted mine.
You, Sir, have very good taste - or at least the same taste in TF&H creams as I do :biggrin1:

My favs from them are Rose and Ultimate Comfort - 2 fantastic performing and very nice smelling creams, not cologne overpowered like the rest of their creams incidentally are.

While I do own and enjoy 1805 and Grafton creams, they are not in the top of my favorite creams, more like in the middle......
I prefer Penhaligon BY FAR over TF&H when it comes to cologne scented creams - Penhalion dwarfs TF&H in this department and I own and enjoy Belnheims Bouquet, Opus 1870 and Endymion FAR FAR more than I enjoy 1805 and Grafton to be quite honest.....

You reminded me I'm only half way through my sampler pack. I liked the ultimate comfort cream and AS balm. They're not my new favorites, but they are very nice. I didn't think much of the preshave, but I'm not sure I need a preshave.

You Sir have the weirdest taste in creams I've seen in here :biggrin1:

Martin de Candre is possible the best performing soap in the world - to hate it is like saying 'I hate Ferrari's, they are tough and uncomfortable to ride in'
Acqua Di Parma is in my Top 3 over best performing creams ever made - along with Acca Kappa 1869 tub and Santa Maria Novelle tub
Castle Forbes - while I do think they are overrated a bit, they are still wonderful creams and for you to dislike them, you would have to be allergic to the strong essential oils in them - other wise I simply can't believe you dislike them

YMMV by quite a bit here obviously :001_tongu

Hi CH Seifert,
I completely agree with you on Penhaligon. I love it. On the other hand,I do not like the 1805 orGrafton at all. Their scents are far too overpowering for me and even bother my skin quite a bit. I've never had any trouble at all with the Ultimate Comfort or T+H Rose. Great aren't they. You also have good taste sir.

I went through a sample pack, and cream performance was top notch, but it does have a price tag. I'm mixed about the scents, some are good and some I find awful. Several of the samples gave much irritation too. The balms were underwhelming - they are not worth their price.

I was lucky enough to pick up a brand new bottle of T&H Clubman AS splash for £15, all the way to my doorstep. I probably won't be buying it again when it's gone due to price, but I really like it, and will enjoy every drop in that bottle. I also like several of the T&H colognes I got in the sample pack, particularly Freshman, Clubman and Spanish Leather.

What annoys me is that I didn't get any 1805 in my sample pack, neither cream, balm or cologne. It sounds like I will like it, I just don't feel like buying a full size product to smell it.

I don't think of the aftershave or cologne as costing $75..... they are $63.75 because you always get 15% off with the B&B discount code (BB12) when you order directly from T&H USA website. That being said.... $63.75 for aftershave?? Really?? They are high priced but very good scents IMHO. I've bought them on sale.... but don't know if I could justify spending full price even with the B&B discount code.... except for maybe Spanish Leather which is my favorite. I also had some irritation from the balms in my sample pack.... except for the Ultimate Comfort balm. The creams are fabulous though and in general I think the scents are better than most. The aftershave and cologne is pricey though..... it's up to you as to whether they are worth it as scents are a very personal preference thing. My samples of the cologne lead me to believe that the longevity is not real great. My two cents.

Ben

I dont think the creams are overpriced. They are great performers... for me a touch above TOBS. At $30 for 6.7 oz, it comes to $22 per 5 oz. Thats the same price as AOS, and IMO AOS does not hold a candle to T&H in both performance and presentation.

Just the tub alone is a work of art. As soon as the summer is over I'll be buying a tub of Trafalgar and WI Limes.

I went through a T&H sampler at the same time I was working through a Trumpers sampler and some TOBS samples from Shoebox. I think T&H was the best performing cream of the three for making great lather. I liked the Trumpers scents best and TOBS was the better price performer. The T&H scents were more artificial/cologne based than the other two. All three are good products. My dry, sensitive skin likes a tallow based soap better though so I'll be passing on buying a full tub of any of them. The Trumpers Coconut, the TOBS Jermyn St, and the T&H Ultimate Comfort were the best for my skin but tallow based soaps like Tabac, MWF, QCS, and Mike's Natural just work better for me. YMMV, of course.
