Tried williams mug soap

I can see, why people say 'respect the williams'

Interesting citrus scent. I honestly can't see why folk struggle lathering it, all i did was soak the puck for a couple of minutes and away i went, bit of a lather explosion if anything.

Shave wise it's a bit misleading, i was a bit aggresive with the straight, as i felt i wasn't getting that close, more the fool me i was cut to ribbons, im used to using soaps with a protective buffer of sorts and though williams does protect it does it differently to other soaps i've tried.

Next time i'll go easier, and give it some respect, i certainly like this soap and i did have a very close shave, just my face looks like an angry cat has had a go at it. :tongue_sm:lol:

Btw is it just me, or for a tallow soap it doesn't feel like one?

I've had a few good shaves with Williams. It has a nice citrus scent I like. If I could get it at the store for a dollar like many here can, it would be ideal, but I have to rely on helpful guys sending me it.

Someone more informed may well chip in, but I think Williams was reformulated about 30 years ago and as a result is not as tallow based.

I'd call Williams a tallow soap, but that's a conclusion from the stated ingredients. The ingredients don't necessarily say anything about lather and performance. I've tried the vintage Williams (courtesy of MichiganLover and Seraphim), and its lather resembles Charismata's more than modern Williams's.

Parenthetically, I've grown tired of the debate around Williams. It is just another one of those things that works for me, and may not work for others. Life is full of things like that, and sometimes things that work for others don't work for me. YMMV, and it would be a funny world if we were all alike.

Williams has been reformulated multiple times, it was only the most recent reformulation in 2002 (when Combe purchased the company), however, that caused the love it, or hate it reactions to this soap.

The formulation of Williams that existed through the late 1970's was an excellent tallow based soap.

The re-formulation that occurred under Beecham ownership resulted in a product that wasn't nearly as good, but still usable.

Combe turned the product into one of the worst products on the market, and it is unusable for a large number of people.

+1. I don't see people slamming (say) Tabac's scent every time it is mentioned.

Works quite well over here. I have great results with it and I think for the price, it's a winner!

I payed $1.25 at walmart, I must have done something wrong with it because it did nothing for me, wouldn't later up very nice at all, tried with my boar and silvertip. What "lather" I got was short lived with irritation. I may have to give it a run again I guess.

Cover your williams with hot water while you shower and then add a drop of CO Bigelow cream to your bowl and you have a lather explosion that is nice and slick.

I can get Williams to lather..

Who would not enjoy a shave with the soap pictured here? A mountain of Williams.
Is it the best soap out there? No! Is it the worst? Decidedly not!

Just another arrow in the quiver...

As with all things... YMMV
