Travel Razors

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but how do you travel, by air at least, with a DE razor?

I presume you couldn't take any blades on the plane, which means that us carry-on-only types would be stuck for blades at our destination.

Still, I see new travel razors on eBay, with little plastic cases and blade pockets.

What gives? Are these items for checked luggage only?

I don't fly much, so it hasn't been an issue yet, but I'm curious ...

Blades go in checked luggage only; No way around that. Others here have suggested mailing blades to your destination hotel, for pickup at checkin...

That's why I have my cartridge still, to go all the places blades can't.

I would guess those travel razor sets are either NOS (ie., manufactured quite some time ago) or made for style rather than function.

You can still see blade slots in the bathrooms of some really old planes, guys used to shave en route and arrive at their destination perfectly groomed!

Those old DE travel sets pre-date our TSA restrictions by quite some time... but not everyone takes a plane when they travel. I think it's best to just check your bag.

Gah! Forty bucks to check a bag so you can carry blades.

If you're traveling light, just mail the blades ahead to your destination.

This is good. I always bring my shave gear when I travel. Its best to avoid planes is you have another means of travel. Flying is such a pain today. It use to be kind of an adventure and was fun to travel that way. Today with all the restrictions and allied costs its a real drag flying. If you have to fly, and sometimes you have no other choice, just make allowances.

I travel from UK airports regularly and the Schick Injector gets through in hand luggage fine. I guess it looks closer to a cartridge razor than the DEs and it allows me to use nearly a DE.

For longer trips, I take a travel Gillette DE in check in baggage.
