Travel kit

I'm heading out for a week in San Francisco tomorrow. I intend to bring the following kit:

37C slant
T&H preshave oil
Dovo Pure Badger brush
Alum
Either Proraso ASB or DR Harris Aftershave Milk
Derby Extra and Wilkinson blades (I have plans on buying some blades in a local CVS)
I have loads and loads of soaps from Mama Bear and Saint Charles waiting for me at the hotel, so I'll not bring any of those.

and a couple of fragrances: C&E West Indian Lime and some sample vials from Anglia Perfumery and GFT.

What do you think about the selection? Is it too much?

I tend to travel lighter than that. Ball end Tech, Body Shop syntetic brush (dries faster), a bar of glycerin soap, a small bottle of Thayers and organic hemp lotion. Don't get the same lather but it works. I hate checking a bag on the plane, but what are you going to do? I take the train, mostly. Or drive to camp, and I enjoy a shave outdoors once in a while.

Well, you can probably ditch the T&H preshave ... :001_rolle

... other than that, fine!

Too much.

Lower your standards and lighten your load. Don't expect to get a BBS shave every time when you're traveling. All you need is a close comfortable shave. The goal is to be presentable, not perfect. If you can get to a DFS while you're on the road, that's gravy.

You don't need a brush when you travel. Take along a good general purpose cream and face-lather it with your palm and fingers.

You can get away without the T&H PSO. It does provide a luxury shave, but its not a necessity.

The selection of fragrances is overkill. You only need one or two at most, and you could just as well get along without any at all.

Keep it simple when you're traveling. You'll have more important things to worry about than shaving. Besides, having a couple of less-than-perfect shaves while you're away from home will make your regular rotation that much more satisfying upon your return.

I disagree.

When I travel I bring stacks of stuff because I want (and get) as good a shave on the road as I do at home. If that means bringing some stuff then so be it. Shaving stuff really doesnt take up that much space in a bag

In my year+ of DE shaving, I still haven't had the desire to take it on the road. The Sensor does just fine. As mentioned before, when travelling, I have more important things to worry about than my shave. Also, as mentioned, I really appreciate my first shave at home when I return.

Pursuant to dpm802:

I tend to travel light also, probably too light for most of your tastes.

For a week on the road, I'd take three Bic Sensitive disposable razors.

If the hotel didn't provide complimentary shave foam, I'd use the
amenity bar soap and face-lather with my hands.

If I got dry skin, I'd use the amenity lotion.
