What's new

Took the first step.

Ordered my first FP, the boaer 388. Should be here in 10 days. Now to choose the ink, im trying to get a good cheap ink that writes well on low end paper, that's good on price as well.

I have a bottle on monteverde that works great on cheap paper for me. The price per bottle seems a bit high but they have bigger bottles then most so the cost per ml is cheaper then most as well. But you could always gI've goulet samples a try to test lots of ink cheaply to see what works well for you, if your going to go that route pick up a syringe kit as well to suck up every last drop and get the most out of them

Namiki also makes some good, affordable inks. As the link shows, it's not out of the question to find fountain pen inks at some office stores, like the Monteverde mentioned above, or although I can't find a Staples link for it, Parker Quink. Just make sure you get real fountain pen ink, and not an artist's ink meant for dip pens. I'm told that India ink or an acrylic ink will permanently mess up a fountain pen, although I've avoided verifying this by experience.

Of course, just because an item is in an online catalog for a store, doesn't mean they'll have it in stock, but sometimes they do.

Good and cheap inks are sometimes tough to get. In my opinion, any ink for under 15¢ per ml is a good buy. Finding a good one at that price point isn't always easy.

James suggested the Monteverde, it fits the bill as it is only 14
¢ , Lamy and Waterman are great and well behaved at around 17¢. I've tried a lot of inks, the Monteverde I have (blue) is a good everyday ink for me, not waterproof though.

The best inks for lousy low-end paper are iron-gall inks but a little extra pen hygiene may be required, I have no trouble with that. Most are more expensive than the others and are usually blue-black. Hope that helps.
