Tony Miller or SRD?

I am probably going to get one or the other when I am ready for a good strop. Seems like I hear a lot about Tony Miller. What's the hype all about? Here's the deal, I have an SRD gift certificate and Tony Miller is not far from me as it turns out (does he have a shop?). There are plenty of other things to eat up the gift certificate so no worries there! What would you do?

Ditto TM.

Back that up with a Kanayama and you're all set.

Unless maybe you want an Illinois for travel.

Now that that's settled

Something you need to know.

Tony runs a one-man show. He accepts orders for a very short window (a day or two) and then he's done for the month.
Keep a close eye on his web site, and as soon as you see him open the window on the model that you want, get in there and grab it.

It took me over 6 months before the combination of Tony's production and my disposable income got together at the same time.

SRD for a "practice strop" until you are through cutting the leather. Would not want top cut the TM, they are tooo nice!

I've been using SRD strops for a while. They are very good strops. They come in a wide variety of leather's, width's, handles, and are readily available. That being said. If you have a chance to get a Tony Miller strop, DO IT! I just recently tried a strop of his and it does beat out the SRD strops. I got the Old No.2 Steerhide with the barber's end, and it is fantastic! I will be selling my two SRD strops.

Not even a question in my mind.

TM all the way. I wish every place I deal with were as good.

I believe Tony Miller was the first to commercially produce that modular design where the Chicago screws are used to attach the leather to the hanging and handle hardware. Any similar looking strop is basically a copy. So, yeah, get a Tony Miller if you can afford it and he has some in stock. :thumbup1:

A SRD strop will accomplish the same thing, but if all you wanted was something just "to work", you would have never took the plunge with straights

I will get a TM one of these days because I really think he is a cut above. That said, so far my SRD strops (two of them) are getting the job done. A wise man once said: don't let perfect get in the way of good enough.

I recommend buying both. I don't have a SRD but I do have a TM. I was lucky enought to pick it up here on the B/S/T. The only problem with it is it's so beautiful I'm affraid to use it!!!
