To restore or not to restore.

Ok my fellow B&Bers,
I have a question. Ive been wanting a khaki army set for a little while now and finally got a chance to buy one today. I got a really good deal on one ($20 shipped), it is in rough shape, the handle is cracked BUT, I want it as a display piece and not for use. My wife collects WW2 memorabilia, mainly nursing artifacts from this time frame, and having something that was possibly used in WW1 is pretty amazing in itself. Now my question is, would you try and clean it up if you were me or would you leave it as time made it? I think I have my answer already but very curious if any of you have run into this question. Thanks!

FWIW I think the natural patina adds to the character of the older sets. Especially the Military sets. Great find, Congrats.

Thanks fellas, Im glad Im not the only one that appreciates these historical items. I 100% agree. Do you all know what blades were used with these in this time period? The Gillette Blues? Thanks again.
