To deer camp shave or not?

I've brought the 40's Super Speed, Cremo, an Astra, and Alum for the early morning shave with coffee pot heated water and a hand held mirror. The question is do the deer really care if I have a BBS when i shoot them or should I chance them being offended by my whiskers? Anyone else shaving at deer camp, if so what's your gear?

Needs milk and a bidet!
Unless you plan on taking Bambi for a date before dinner I'd forgo the shaving.

on the other hand shaving in the wild sounds like a grand ole time!

and I probably don't have to tell you not to use anything scented, like aftershave.

Shave. It's the manly thing to do. Your hunting buddies will pretend to not be particularly impressed, but they will be. Deer won't notice, especially once they are dead.

Skip the scented AS, though. If that is asking too much, at least don't rock the Veg. That is one of the few substances that deer can smell even 100 yards UP wind. It will wilt foliage and melt your face paint (if you go for all that Rambo stuff) and maybe make you lose your grip climbing a tree stand. Shave in the evening, so the soap scent has time to dissipate. Or make up a specially scented AS from your favorite buck lure. Note that this will probably prove to be a powerful SWMBO repellant and she might not let you in the house for a few days.

If you must shave, although not recommended, use scent block as your aftershave:biggrin1: or spray doe urine in your face, yuck, keep the wind in your face and the deer in front of you. They can smell at quite a distance. You don't want to miss your trophy buck because you decided to shave.

No way i'd shave at deer camp. Like Trek2100 said scent plays too big a part. Unless you are hunting a powerling or something where you are sniping a deer long distance. As far as your hunting buddies being impressed. Not at any deer camp I have been to. "The manly thing to do" I wouldn't call our obsession with shaving and shaving products particularly manly. We took it way past that as soon as we start wanting to try every scent, find the best moisturizers, and best color of scuttle to match our shave dens. There is nothing wrong with our shaving disorder but we are as obsessed with out gear as a woman and her shopping for shoes or purses. If you want to shave because you would feel better about being you, that is cool. Otherwise I at least would wait until the days hunt is done.

Thought I would add. There was an old man at the camp I went to as a kid. He dry shaved every morning. Now that is manly and committed to not smelling before a hunt.

I did not shave for two and a half weeks of deer and elk hunting this year. I just thoroughly washed my face each night. When I got home Iwore a goat for a few then took Iit all down for work. Not shaving is part of my hunting experience.

As Maria Tomi tells Vinnie in the movie Cousin Vinnie, the poor little deer stops for a drink of water and BAM, half his brains are laying there. Do you think the F****n deer cares if you are clean shaven or not!!!!

Bow or firearm season up there?Spoon sharpened with a rock? Must be FuFu camp. The only valid options are as they always have been: Hunting knife (must sharpen yourself, no angle jigs!) or sharp rock (must knap it yourself). Good luck getting lather off the scent killer soap... Alum or Styptic are allowed only cause it burns and don't leave scent.Any shave violations are only permissible if you then take a kill picture with you posed with game so that it looks like you took the deer with your 40s SuperSpeed.

If deer camp is anything like it used to be, save the shave for after you get home. Or, shave the next day after filling your tags. For me, usually the first guy who bags his deer ends up staying back and doing the cooking/dishwashing for those who remain out on the quest. Your freshly shorn face could be the sign that you did your duty, culled the herd and ended the season as you should have, with success.

Good luck and be sure of your target.

There was no shave, no deer either... Windy and sprinkling in Russellville, MO. Maybe it will be better hunting this evening.

I don't generally deer hunt, however I do go rough camping meaning far away from any civilization and none of that camp ground stuff. Just took my tweezerman, puck of QCS Province, Merkur HD and a Feather and a balm in my small dopp like bag to travel light. I've shaved in creeks and ponds, waters cold I face lather with a pocket mirror...really I don't notice too much a difference except the small mirror as I alternate between cold and hot shaving. I find it a pretty unique and enjoyable experience, dunno about you guy's lol
