What's new

Time off does take its toll.

For 3 years now I've been going to the gym every day, I only miss a workout once in a while. However when I go on a vacation I usually don't work out at all, I just take the time off and relax. I was on a cruise all last week, and even though I stopped into the gym on the ship, I just didn't bother to do any working out. I took 10 days off, and today I went back to my regular routine picking up right where I left off. Having done this before it wasn't a problem hitting the cardio and the weights again. The only difference now is after just this one workout I'm really sore, and its almost like I haven't worked out for quite a long time. I guess I can attribute this to my being on the older side of the years. But that's O.K., I'll be right back at it again tomorrow. Over the last 3 years this exercise thing has become a habit, and I'm not about to give it up. I'm sure the soreness will be gone in a few. :001_tongu  :ihih: :thumbup1:

I made some decent gains after a 10 days cruise. I had beat myself up pretty good in the preceding months and the recovery was well received. Pretty much all I did was sleep and eat (a lot) for the whole cruise and by when I got back I had put on 8 pounds and leaned out somehow. It doesn't help at the moment, but if you're taking time off it might be advantageous to overtrain just a little bit in anticipation of extra rest.
