What's new

Time for a straight???

I have been a member here for awhile wet shaving with my meager collection of vintage Gillette razors for the past year. I have been looking in to trying a straight for a while now.

I have not picked up a straight razor yet, Have my eyes on the ones I will post here further down. I am looking for opinions on if they maybe good razors, I am sure they will need a little clean up and honing. Also wanted an opinion on what a fair price maybe per each and as a set as I have never bought a straight razor before. After I find a good razor to work on, ill have to find a strop.

From what I can tell they are as follows
Griffon Carbo Magnetic 60
917 Real Red Point Made in Germany by the Utica Knife & Razor Co
Black-Hawk????
F. A. Koch & Company, Faultless No.20 - This one looks like it has a frown to it.

Bottom one: I'd take scales and toss razor. Not worth the time to restore the blade.

Top one: $15

Middle two, $20-35 each if they aren't warped.

This is B&M... on ebay, maybe 50-75% of the values I gave.

Wanting for wisdom
I'm fairly new to this too. I really like them all but the last one. I like the red dot one and the one below the best.

I'm just saying this now as I'm sure there will be all sorts of people who know better that will educate us and they need someone to call a fool . . . and this time that will be me . . . :eek6:

I don't like the bottom one as the blade is worn in a curve that I'm not sure I could hone. (Frown)

I agree, the top three (not the frowner) are all decent. I wouldnt pay more than 20 each for the condition theyre in though (you can fix that youself with a bit of sandpaper and elbow grease though)

I knew I shouldn't have slept on the idea of buying them, someone snagged them from under me. Thats alright, there are many more blades out there. Now that I have an idea of what to look for and about what to pay.

Thanks everyone, B&B is the best.
