Tie clip?

Hey guys,
Time for some advice. I am attending a less than formal wedding in september oddly enough as the "matron of honour" yes I am a man and no Im not sure how this works but the bride wants me to be her matron of honour. Anyway, as I said this is less than formal and I am not required to wear a suit :angry:. It has been requested that I wear black dress shirt with orange tie and khaki pants. My question is weather this is an occasion for cufflinks/french cuff which i love and/or tie clip since I wont be wearing a coat. I need to liven this thing up somehow. They wont listen to my request to "suit up!!!" Any advice on this would be appreciated also, how does one wear a tie clip? never had one before

Honestly, if you are wearing khaki's, I wouldn't wear french cuffs or a tie clip.

When in doubt, keep it simple.

...and how do I wear a tie-clip?

I don't use a Tack, Clip or Bar, but a Tie Chain with a Mustard Seed. :thumbsup:

With no jacket or suit, I'd just wear the (gulp) orange tie without the tie clip. I actually like the colour orange and I like to see it on people, but not as a solid tie (assuming it is anyway). It's the bride's day, so make her happy. BTW, "matron" is still a female term. Ask her if you can be the dude of honour.

If you want to change her mind about wearing a suit, you need to work with the groom and see what he is wearing. If he isn't wearing a suit you can't outshine him. So if the plan right now is not for him to wear a suit, you have to talk him into talking the bride into it. And then she will likely have to reconsider what she is wearing. It won't be easy. Good luck.

Simple it is then. Thanks for the advice guys. As to a solid orange tie it most certainly will have a pattern

Bad enough wearing the tie with no jacket.

What?! I am not allowed to wear a tie without a full suit or at least a jacket? My normal work "outfit" is a shirt, tie, slacks and dress shoes! My work is business casual so I feel like I am pushing it even wearing the tie.

Ask the Bride, and then do whatever your told.

I would also ask for a new title, your not a matron, from the sounds of the ceremony "Dude of Honor" may be more appropriate. :001_cool:

technically speaking, wouldn't you be a Patron of Honor?

Matriarch = mother
Patriarch = father

Or you could request the German word for father: Vater. When you say it people will assume you're making a Star Wars joke.

I was all set to launch into some pretty witty barbs about being a matron of honour and "I'm still a man ... honest!" ... and then ...

It has been requested that I wear black dress shirt with orange tie and khaki pants.

Two words: Fug Lee.

Honestly, wearing a suit jacket won't salvage that train wreck, nor will French cuffs and a tie bar or whatever. But ... and this is a big, big BUT ... *cough*sirmixalot*cough* ... you do what the bride tells you.

So wear that crap.

Ask her if she minds you "honouring her special occasion by wearing your favourite set of cuff links" ... I assume she'll be down with it, but you have to check, and then ... enjoy the wedding.
