Thuringian-like stone

I bought this stone for 1,5€ yesterday. it is so smooth like coticule but i think it is harder. i lapped it with aluminium oxide stone then i dulled my razor on glass to test it. i made milky slurry like coticule but then i made quick rolling half strokes as i read like honing with thuries. after it reached the bevel to cut arm hairs i made 50 x-strokes with the same slurry but diluted with water. it passed the HHT3 withought stropping Then i taped it and made 30 x-strokes.

i was playing with my new stone. Guess what? i made additional 20 strokes and overhoned !!! this is the very first time and don't know what to do. i look at the edge with a magnifier and saw half of the edge of the blade was shining at one side. i made an other spine leading 20 strokes. now it's okay. i learned something new.

overhoned, huh? explain a bit more... it isn't exactly clear by "half of edge was shining at one side" 20 more other side and okay... thanks

i mean after i finished honing i made test strokes using half of the blade (middle and the point). it failed HHT so i looked at the edge with magnifying glass. one side of the edge reflected light the other side didn't. i think the edge rolled. isn't this the sign of overhoning?

Oh no here we go lol... Ney, ney, say it isn't overhoned lol : )

Nice looking stone. Glad its working out for you.

I've done it.

Iwasaki references the wire edge in his sharpening guide.. he suggested using Crox (I think) as a fix.

I've had a wire edge once. It was off of a Naniwa 12K, I've never had one before or since no matter the stone.

I was under the impression that it was nearly impossible to get a wire edge off a natural stone.

It's very easy. Get a fast coticule and do half-strokes on only one side using pressure, preferably concentrated on one part of the razor. It's not that it's impossible but that a beginner following basic techniques should not encounter it under normal circumstances.

when you get a wire edge, isn't the corollary that there is an edge right behind it? isn't that how the wire edge gets to be a wire edge, or am i missing a vital aspect of the process?
