What's new

GIVEAWAY! THREE WINNERS! Contest to check your eyesight - REALLY!

A contest with ENORMOUS pressure - go get your magnifying glass!

You are charged with correctly identifying the original Captain's Choice lather bowl, that's it. To make it more challenging (cough, cough...) there is a cheap lather bowl in each picture. To add even more pressure these other lather bowls really, really want to be like Captain's Choice when they grow up. Woe to the member who picks one of THOSE!

Can you spot which one is the Captain's Choice lather bowl? (This is all very tongue in cheek so I hope you enjoy the humor.) This is not hard, believe me!

There will be three winners chosen by random.org. Each winner will receive a $50.00 credit to use in our store! Winners must be CONUS only please. Here is how you enter:

1. Correctly identify which copper bowl is ours.
2. Correctly identify which ceramic lather bowl is ours.

You must get both correct in order to be entered. (Ohhh, the pressure...) We will let this run a few days and see who random.org selects. Good luck to each of you!

Scott, have you found a new supplier for your ceramic offerings yet? I checked your website today, as I've been recommending your Soap Lockers in a lot of posts... It would be nice to see them available again.

Thanks for asking Kim.

I can assure you I have been looking hard to find a production potter for one year now. It does appear I have found one. Nearly all potters are creative by nature which is understandable - they are artists. To find an artist that wants to sit and make the same identical product over and over... few want to do it simply because there is nothing artistic about it. So you can see my quandary.

True story: My most recent production potter did an amazing job for me but was an artist at heart. After three years he showed me how much he made / hour doing my work. He had counted up the quantities and kept track of his time - he was making $100.00 / hour. Six months later it was, "I have decided to focus on more artistic endeavors. I will keep doing your bowls for another six months if you like but will be phasing out of production work." I told him, "But you are making $100 / hour..." And he shrugged as he agreed. So it is never about the money which explains how hard it is to find someone.

This is all subject to change but the hope is to have ceramic offerings in our store by October first. We will have our classic Gunmetal black as well as a very cool Cobalt blue. It appears we will have those two colors to begin with and I do have a revised Mariners Mug for coffee that I hope to have out by then as well. Scuttles? Did you say scuttles? Well, baby steps. Those could be after the holidays but may not be until spring.

In large part this is the dynamic of a small business. Finding reliable partners who share your expectations.
