What's new

Thoughts on Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green?

I like it a lot. Citrus (lemon and bergamot--maybe more?), lavender and pine. Very underrated, and it's a crime that it isn't in production anymore. Fortunately you can still get it everywhere. There's also a nice lemony aftershave that goes with it. I've even seen a balm but I haven't tried it. I really like wearing it in the summer.

Anyone tried this? If so, what was your impression?

Thanks,
-Andy

Thanks to a PIF from The Nid Hog, Bowling Green now is in my spring/summer rotation and I really enjoy it. It opens with a blast of citrus, and then evolves into a really complex woodsy, manly scent. For the money, it's really hard to beat this one. It's listed as "Out of Production" on Basenotes (check out their review for individual notes and other opinions), but is pretty widely available nonetheless. A very definite thumbs-up! Give it a try - if you don't like it it's not like you'll be out a bunch of cash.

I've used Bowling Green off and on for 20 years.

The opening is a stong citrussy/green blast and I can pick up the Juniper note. Really nice.
On me it's quickly followed by a floral/lavender mid with a soapy clean smell.
The drydown is spicey and woodsy. I seem to pick up cedar, moss, fir and cardamon.

The overall feeling is of a spicey, clean green scent. I prefer it for daytime and summer.

I've had both the cologne and aftershave. In my opinion I would avoid the AS. The scent is very fleeting and it doesn't seem to contain any skin toning elements except alcohol. The cologne lasts about 6 hours on me and is relatively subtle.

My 2nd favorite bargain cheapie behind Bogart Pour Homme.
Bowling Green is a quality far higher than it's price.
Better than almost all newer, more expensive green/citrus scents.

Just to echo all the good things said here. I've been using it since it came out, or shortly thereafter. I was saddened that it has been discontinued, but glad that it is still available in the sales channel (but who knows for how long?). I recently bought a gift pack - 4 oz each of the EdC and AS - and I couldn't be happier to have it again.

I stopped by the outlet store yesterday where I've bought it in the past. They don't have the 4 oz. spray bottle any longer--just some 1 oz. splash bottles. I'd like to grab at least another large bottle of the EdT before it's gone.

80's power scent that I have to stay away from - I like the scent, but I have to avoid it because it gives me a blinding headache.
