What's new

Those that don't use a styptic or alum.

Anyone else here not using either? when I have a nick, I usually just leave it be aside from rinsing it. None of my nicks ever bleed down my face, mostly just spots here and there. Any disadvantage to this? My neck is the toughest part, adam's apple being the toughest to shave, and I still notice it can be red after a couple days of not shaving. I'm guessing it takes longer to heal? That or it's scarred. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat.

i have never used a styptic pencil and only used alum for four months. Cold water is usually sufficient to stop any minor nicks or cuts for me. If it is more serious, then i still have alum to stop it.

I got alum pen in one of my first purchases. Used it a bit for some small nicks, did not really see the point, cold water end fixes up the small nicks. Now my technique is not half bad and found my blade the nicks are rare anyway.

I had a pencil but it was too brittle and could not keep it in one piece.

I have an alum block but it just does not do much for me.

I use an alum block because I like the way it tightens up the pores and heals any skin damage that you can't see. It also lets you know when you are doing something wrong with the burn.

I keep some of the proraso gel type styptic on hand but I haven't used it yet. My experience is similar to the OP, any nicks are just a spot of blood that close up before the shave is finished.

Cold water for final splash. Cold water will coagulate blood, in my case it will reduce or eliminate razor burn. I have a styptic pencil and perhaps use it once or twice a year.

I don't trust chemicals in particular any aluminum product because of the association with Alzheimers.

Since pores do not have muscles, they do not open or close so I don't bother with any product that promises to do anything to my pores.

Still have a tiny pencil in pieces and an ancient chunk of alum. Haven't touched them in years except when my Wife cut the dogs nail too short!
