This Might Be A Dumb Question

But, then again, I believe that the only "dumb" question is the unasked question. I am having trouble finding single edged blades. I have one single edged razor I want to try head shaving with because I think I can get a better angle with it than with a DE. Here is the question: Are the blades sold in hardware departments designed for the small retractable paint scrapers ok for shaving, or are they a different animal altogether?

No, the hardware store blades are ground differently (i.e., for durability versus sharpness), and you'll be sorely disappointed if you try using one. Try CVS or Walgreens (maybe Walmart, but I haven't looked for them there) in the shaving section for Gem blades. Alternatiely, several online vendors sell SE blades. Good luck!

If you can't find any locally, pm me your address and Monday I'll mail you some Gem stainless steel blades to try, gratis.

stay away from some of the Grocery store ones. I picked up some at a local Food Lion and even though they were in the shaving section they were absolutely terrible. Walgreens or CVS are definitely the way to go.

B&B vendor Dave has good prices for SE blades. http://www.razorbladesandmore.com/content/100-gem-stainless-steel-coated-single-edge-blades

I have found Treet carbon steel blades locally, but no Stainless Steel SE blades. The Great Blade Exchange (revived by Toothpick) does not have any stainless SE blades. There are a few Walgreens here in town, but not one of them has the GEM SS blades. If someone has 1 or 2 to spare I would be grateful (or just send some to Toothpick for the Great Blade Exchange).

Never mind. I found 5 on Amazon for $2.50. Holiday sabbatical does not start for 11 more days; I still have time to get an order in. I'm still hoping someone will send a few stainless SE blades to Toothpick for The Great Blade Exchange.
