What's new

This is not good

So, I've been consciously staying the hell away from The Nib. I've dabbled very lightly in the FP game for a while - 3 or 4 cheap pens, an assortment of Noodler's inks, and some very nice G. Lalo stationery. That was good enough to get me through, and I somehow deluded myself into thinking this was one AD I had somehow managed to keep in check.

My downfall started with ink. A few discussions I've had recently with a couple of you gents has got me suddenly "needing" to expand beyond my Noodler's borders and see what I've been missing. This, of course, led inevitably to a re-evaluation of the pen inventory. One can't exactly put Iroshizuku in a Platinum Plaisir, right?

I was running low on stationery anyway, so after much virtual window shopping, I've got a healthy order on the way, and I now have "Pelikan Souveran" as a saved search on eBay. Hoo boy... I'm in trouble.

Sorry to hear... I'm still working diligently to avoid that rabbit hole, and holding strong still so far. I'm working on living vicariously through others that have jumped in head first. lol

Serves you right James, lol Couldn't have happened to a more deserving member. Unless we can get Jason back in here, then probably him as well

Cant wait to see the order, best of luck (However you wish to take that) On the pelikan

If it is any comfort, the Pelikan will spoil you against other pens. Since getting my M200 my other pens see little use. Of course, now I want a 600 and a vintage 140.

So, what you're saying is: a $100 investment in a Pelikan M200 will cure me of wanting to buy any other pens - except for the $400 M600. Thanks, Owen. That's very comforting.

LOL, it's just like pipes
Uh oh.

Glad I could help. Someone did this to me with Esoterica Penzance- not that it is expensive, but it can be hard to get. Oh well, it is so damn good- it was my pre-bed smoke last night.

I was thinking about getting into pipes, but I've been sufficiently scared off thanks to B&B. I'll wait a few years before I even think about plunging into that deep end.
Nonsense- the Brown Leaf is tame. No, I really mean that.

Well, at least in comparison to the Dark Room.

You don't have to go all out like that. You can get started for $20 or less. Best part? The chaps in the brown leaf are just as cool, as here in the NIB :001_smile

Yep, good guys in both. A couple of Missouri Meerschaum cobs will set you back $12 or so, which is cheap enough to experiment with tobaccos. They smoke well enough- no need to drop $200 on a pipe right away. I started with a cob and two briars that were gifted to me. That allowed me to stockpile some tobacco until I could afford to splurge on a pipe- my meersccham and my 2012 LE Tinsky, which was really a father's day present.

Wooops you picked the wrong thread to make that declaration lol... I give you a month before seeing you in the Brown Leaf

Luckily (or maybe not), my dad has a bunch of pipes that he's willing to give me whenever he can find them. I'll probably start from there and see how it goes. He claims that there are a few really good pipes in there, but I know next to nothing about pipes. I do know there's one that my uncle got him from Sweden when my uncle was stationed there circa the Vietnam War. It has one of those Nordic Gods carved into it and looks relatively bad ***. No idea how good/bad it is though.

That said... my father is afraid that I'll get hooked on pipes and drag him back into them with me. His FPAD is even worse than mine, and he used to be absolutely hooked on pipes until my mother made him quit.

Sounds like you just need some tobacco and you are ready to go. Pop on over and introduce yourself- we don't bite.
