I've been participating in a thread in which I've been trying to track down a new scent to complement my favorite and standard, Eau Sauvage. Something struck me as I was testing the various suggestions;
Initially I thought I was just looking for a scent that I "liked". As I progressed, I realized that their were certain scents that smelled ok, but didn't resonate with me, but that those few that truly resonated did so on a deeper level than just a pleasant scent that appealed to me. What occurred to me was that I wasn't actually looking to wear a scent that said, "hey, here's something I think smells good," I was looking for something that said "hey, you may not know me but that scent you're smelling? If my personality had a scent, sometimes it would smell like this."
This is what "I" smell like. Sometimes I don't wear any scent, when I want to move through the world in my own space and be left to myself. But sometimes I want to announce my presence and give people a little heads up as to what I'm about, and the right scent is an incredible way to do that. Scent is so strongly connected to the deepest centers of our brains, it's incredible what it unlocks and the connections that it makes, all on its own. It's very exciting when you hit upon a fragrance that makes this click for you.
The right tshirt, the right collar, the right hat, the right song, the right boots, the right scent... These are all attempts to solidify and communicate our identity in an increasingly crowded, anonymous, generic, cookie cutter world.
I know who I am.
I am not my fragrance, but this is what "I" smell like.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Hope this wasn't too rambling, this realization just got me fired up for the day and I hoped if I shared it, I could pass along the good vibe.
Gf
