Thinking of trying a slant(Merkur 37C)

However my beard is neither coarse not do I have sensitive skin. My current daily shaver is the Feather AS-D1 which works very well for me. Should I pick up a slant just to say I tried it? Obviously you don't need to have a coarse beard or sensitive skin to use it but these seem to be what is remarked in most of the comments I read about the slant, and who it would benefit most.

Talk me into, or out of, buying a slant!

Thanks

I do not have a thick course beard, but last month I bought a 39C "just to have one". The shave was so smooth and close I have since bought 2 other slants to put in my rotation.

FWIW i find the vintage slants a little smoother than the current Merkur but if you like the AS D1 a Hoffritz may be more to your liking.

I picked up the Merkur 37c when they came back into stock with the vendors after months of wondering what a slant would be like. I tried to pick up a few vintage Hoffritz slants on the bay to no avail.... they always had me curious. I liked the shorter handle of the 37c compared to the 39c so that's what I was holding out for.... and I'm glad I did. I believe that they are worth trying if you haven't and you're curious about them. I could see how they may not be for everyone, but I can see that with just about every razor out there. You never know, it may be the best razor you ever try so I think it's worth it to give it a shot. Get a Merkur first to try out before you go spending $200 on a cased vintage Hoffritz so you know whether or not you like how they shave. They are interesting contraptions to say the least. I don't know exactly how they shave so well. I think you just intuitively sort of find the right angle and stroke that works. My only difficulty is going sideways above and below my lip. All I know is that I have to go one direction above and the opposite below..... or there's trouble.

No need to get one is you are enjoying your current razors. Personally, i don't care for them, but if you are intrigued, then get one to see what all the fuss is about as i am sure you can pick up a used one for a good price. Good luck.

For myself, the 37C is my smoothest and most comfortable shaver. I would say I have a moderately coarse beard with quite sensitive skin. It is the most consistent razor I own at giving me smooth BBS shaves with the least irritation (unless I do something wrong). I highly, highly recommend you give it a shot. If you don't like it, you will find that it sells very quickly on the BST.

A slant is a completely different style of razor. Super smooth & mild feeling while being extremely efficient. Definitely a must try.

I'm a new 39C user, best shave yet (not including my straight razor). I prefer the longer handle vs the shorter 37C, but your opinion may vary. I originally started with a 34HD, which I found to be too mild for BBS shaves and I didn't care for the short handle. I moved on to a 38M, but decided to just go ahead and try out a slant razor. I think you should definitely decide on the length of the handle you prefer first, then go buy a slant! If you don't care for it, it will move pretty quickly on the sales forum.
