They Did The Monster Mash!

Halloween is tomorrow! As a child my family didn't observe Halloween, but since I've had a child of my own, I've come to love the day. Mostly it's the dressing up and candy that I love. My place of business takes its Halloween very seriously, and we have a company wide day of observance planned. The departments compete in costume and decorations, and my department has a whole Harry Potter theme planned. I'll be dressing up as Severus Snape the best I can. Snape was a sharp Edwardian/Victorian dresser in the movies, but costumes of this style are very hard to find and very expensive. I did manage to procure a replica of his wand for pretty cheap, though.

Who else will be costuming tomorrow? Anyone wearing costumes to work?

(Also, I'm in the process of making about 100 chocolate frogs complete with replica boxes from the movies. We'll woo the judges one way or another.)

I normally don't do the dress-up thing, but a few years ago I picked up a cheap Superman costume on a whim and wore it out to my favorite nightclub. I had a blast! Until I had to go to the men's room, and discovered that the one-piece costume didn't make any allowance for that particular function. I had to hold it until I got home.

Another outfit I've considered was to dress up as The Striding Man that adorns the label on Johnnie Walker bottles.

I work in retail and this year we had our "dress up day" last saturday. not sure why. I don't make the rules. Anyway I didn't dress up. but one year for a different company (retail) I glued a ton of Smarties to my pants and was a smarty pants! har har har! All the stores in the district would compete with each other and the winner got a pizza party or something. We didn't win sadly, but about 6 of us dressed up.

I am not a big Halloween dresser but every so often I try to do...something. I do think that homemade costumes are far superior to most of the stuff you can buy. If you guys like Instructables go to that site and look up the mask that mimics the character in the video game called Call of Duty; Ghosts. Made from a simple black t shirt and fabric paint it looks rather menacing and probably cost all of five dollars. This is the way to make costumes for Halloween. We aren't talking masquerade balls.

Cheers, Todd

I'm going to go as Finn the Human tomorrow, though depending if people are dressed up here or not I might change once I get into work.

I'm going as Henry Fonda/Norman Thayer from "On Golden Pond"
It's easy because I don't have to do anything different than normal.

That women is a few pieces of candy short of a full load and shouldn't be too surprised by what happens to her house. And she and her family better be in one heck of good shape.
+1 ... she deserves what she's got coming to her. That note she hands out is just plain mean.

If she's so concerned about nutrition, perhaps she should confine her treat-giving to granola bars or other health-conscious snacks. When I was trick-or-treating as a kid, some families gave out nickels and dimes in lieu of candy.

Or maybe it would be better for her not to participate at all. I never decorate my house for any holidays, and the kids know to just skip it and move on to the next one.

1) There were like 400 people taking pictures... I'm sure I was more visible in some of them. It's really just black pants, black shirt, and a cape. :/ I wanted the real thing, but that was close to $400. Not happening.

2) Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

No one dressed up in my office, so I went as Business Casual with jeans and a dress shirt. My friend that is in a different department at the other end of the building looks like some sort of mad trapper.

I hope whatever Momma received that nice little note marched over to the witch's house and explained to her that it does NOT take a village to raise a child (what nonsense), it takes one set of parents, and a bunch of neighbors who mind their own business.

I'm out of town on business today so no Halloween festivities planned. But I did dress up as a Zombie last weekend for the annual Zombie Stomp, a 4.4 mile race where zombies chase the runners. Here is my zombie makeup I did for it. It's my first attempt at making prosthetics or doing makeup.
