Luckily I managed to grab it. :001_tongu

Fantastic, John. Yes they don't come up often. It took quite a few months before I found mine. The little lady is quite a beauty.

Beautiful set John. Great score. Interesting collection of VIP DEs as well as straights. Wonderful collection down under.

Thanks for the post. I picked one of these up recently but was not sure what it was. Buy the design knew it was late 40's but that was all. Do you have any more info on these?

The short handled Gillette Milady has a long history starting around 1915. That razor plus an ambitious ad campaign is actually what started smooth under arms by the ladies. It took a while for it to catch on but the practice started in the US and took a couple years to catch on in Europe. You will find the Milady with the short handle in the Old Type, New Improved, New De Luxe and the New. The TTO model you see here was the last short handled razor Gillette made for the ladies and preceded the long handled Lady Gillette. Every model makes a fine collectable.

There is also a matching Milord razor which has the same fabric covering on the case.

There is a lot to be said for marketing efforts . . . :001_tt1:

That is a work of art. My problem would be whether or not I could bring myself to "collect" it and not shave with it. It might be easy once it came looking like that though. That looks amazing.

+1

Here is the 1940 Ad:

Interesting -- in the ad the razors are referred to as "Techs," yet they're TTO. I had always thought that Techs were all of the three-piece variety???

the 1937 Sheraton and 1938 Senator are open comb TTO and are called only One Piece Razor

1938 comes with the Tech the solid guard bar.

The TTO from 1940 and 1941 are the first TTO with solid guard bar and they are called One Piece Tech Razor

Since 1946 they don´t produce open comb razors, so the solid guard bar is "normal" and they called the TTO razors only One Piece Razor
