What's new

The wife has converted!

My wife told me a couple of weeks ago that she might like to try shaving her legs with a DE. So, I bought her a Lady Gillette and loaded it with an Astra SP. She used it this past week and said that she has never had that close of a shave with just one pass. She also loves the fact that the cost per blade is so much less than what she spent on those quattro things. Glad to have another DE shaver in the house!

my wifes blue lady gillette which i cleaned up and polished (to near mint), sits along side her Pink Silvertip WD brush in our medicine cabinet.

this reminds me, it's time to ask her to give it another try.

thats fantastic. i hope to convert my girlfriend eventually. maybe. she has so far only expressed an interest in using a brush and soap.

Congrats. My wife loves hers. Have her try a feather, my wife will not use any other blade now.

I was also able to convert my 14yo daughter which was quite a bit harder.

Good job, Matt.
I think I will have to buy my girlfriend a Lady Gilette and some feather blades. I have tried to talked her into this a couple of times before, but she is a bit reluctant. On the other hand, now I know what to put under the christmas tree :tongue_sm

I bought my wife a LG because she keeps telling me she loves the TTOs. I just bought one for her and another razor came in that I purchased for my father-in-law. She acted a little disappointed that I got one for him and she still doesn't have one of her own. I can't wait to surprise her with it. That and she keeps telling me she wants a brush of her own so I grabbed one from Whipped Dog (silvertip and firehouse pottery handle). I'm glad I have a wife that is interested in this hobby as well.

Congrats on the conversion, I think.

My wife uses a Blue Lady...and the last of my Sir Irisch Moos. Oh, and I get to refill a blade dispenser with Sharks whenever she runs out. Every once in awhile she'll ask me to clean the razor, too.

Wish I could get the wife to convert! She uses my 60's SS and loves it but goes for her cart razor b/c of ease of use! I'm still putting in the effort to get her to switch.

My Mrs was using my Gillette GII uptill a few weeks back. She finally got round to getting hold of here usual Gillette disposable razors. She did comment on the close shave but thought the handle was a little awkward.

My SWMBO had converted recently too. Shes starting to fall in love with all the old timey traditional shaving things just like me. She's been fascinated by my shaving routine for some time now, I guess it was only a matter of time before she converted.
Congrats on the conversion! Its always fun to share a hobby.

SWMBO says "I'd cut myself to shreds! No thanks!" ummm....what do you say to convert them?

My SWMBO said the same thing. I told her to let me give her one shave and if I ripped up her legs then she didnt need to use one. She agreed, so I whipped up her choice of shave soap and went to town. All I can say is she was amazed at how smooth her legs felt and how great the razor glided over her skin. She was hooked after that.

Same thing happened tonight with my SWMBO. I picked up a couple of Gem SE razors this weekend at an antique store, she snatched one from me and said "I could shave with this one!" Tonight I was giving her a quick primer on making lather and she asked me to shave her knees. I used an old Gillette DE and some C.O Bigelow, and I think she's sold. I just need to find her a nice Lady Gillette, she wants "the blue sparkly one". She told me that I'm stuck shaving her knees now though because she's never had that good of a shave (I even nicked her!!). I think I've got an excuse to buy more stuff!! She's almost as bad of a collector as I am.

This morning when I was shaving, SWMBO asked me to put some of my extra lather on one of her legs as she was getting ready to shave in the shower. I had been cajoling her to try for a while and this morning she asked for it. She has not believed me that it is a smoother shave. She always uses some pink or green handled things with 3 or 4 blades. The entire razor is disposable.

Well, after I lathered up one leg, she started shaving and grudgingly let out a "wow" of how much smoother it is. She shaved the other leg with regular goo and wants to compare them tonight. She doesn't want to take the time to make lather every morning, but if it is that much better tonight (ie, it isn't growing back as fast) she wants me to make extra lather as I shave and put it on her legs.

I guess I have her started slowly on the path. After she learns to love the later, I'll probably shave her legs with my DE and let her see how smooth it can get. Then it will probably be off to get her a Lady Gillette. I figure I have to start slow and get there gradually. There something about women that makes them not like it when you tell them that you were right and they were wrong. :biggrin1:

That's great. My girlfriend (soon-to-be fiance, God willing) said she'd try a DE. Being a decent collector of Gillette DEs, I had 2 Lady Gillettes sitting around (blue and champagne). I told her to take the Blue (there's no way I'm giving up that Champagne!) and she is getting into it. She is using it and even told me the other day that she needs to get more blades for it.
