Congrats on the win!
There is something to be said for a very unique and rare brush.
What a cool feeling, to own something that there are only 90 of in the whole world.
Enjoy it!

Not to be repetitive, but I received the Simpsons today. It came well-packed, and with a separate invoice, from the fine people at Vulfix / Simpsons. At this point, let me think of baseball before I get too excited.

Okay. First impression: beautiful brush, nice heft, good feel. The loft looks longer in the photos than in person, and it feels like there is some backbone in there (of course, hard to tell without using it!).

The handle has a nice feel to it. I’m a big fan of tapered handles to begin with, so I am predisposed to liking it. But, I was surprised at how good it felt. Also, the material is a bit nicer than I was expecting. The faux horn seems more detailed than my Rooney. I don’t have my Rooney with me, but I remember it having a smooth transition between the two tones rather than distinct lines. The Simpsons handle has areas with a gradual blossom, and areas with distinct lines. I thought this was well exemplified by the bottom of the handle (last photo).

Overall, pretty impressive. I don’t have any other brushes with me for scale, but here are some “first impression” photos. I apologize in advance for the lack of photographic skills. I’ll put together a comprehensive review after I get a chance to use it a bit.

Not only that, but to have #3! How cool is that? I'm guessing that 1 & 2 were kept internally.

Very, very cool! Congrats again! I have one of these on the way from WCS. I am surprised to see that for that much money Simpson's didn't include something other than a cardboard box and some tissue paper (think beautiful velvet lined case similar to what the '08 B&B LE Kent brush came in). That aside, I like the look of the Faux Horn and the shape of the Astor brushes is awesome.

Enjoy! I look forward to seeing this in some SOTD pics!

I'm not a big faux horn fan, but I agree that this is a very nice rendition.

Me too. I think this faux horn is beautiful. I do however think that it's a bit of a shame that Simpson's didn't make such a special brush out of real horn. It's a let-down almost like Plisson putting 3 band hair on real ivory handles.
