The Shave Secret

I picked up a bottle of The Shave Secret at my local Wally World and was looking forward to trying it out as a solo product to sculpt my goatee. Has anyone used this product on its own (meaning not as a pre-shave oil) and what's been your experience?

I'm planning to shave the rest of my beard as usual with my shaving cream/soap and then after my final pass, use the Shave Secret to put the finishing touches on my goatee. Thoughts?

i used it once for the entire face. just as it says. as a shaving cream alternative. i didnt have a successful shave with it. i had to lather for the second pass and touch up. it wasnt painful but it left quite a few patches of unshaved hair and more stubble than usual. all around it wasnt any better than using lather. and you have to rinse your razor OFTEN or it will clog. you should use it tho at least once because it could work magically for you. otherwise i think it would be fine for touchup as you said, around your goatee. but then again so does just hot water and a wet face, for me anyway.

I haven't found shave-secret to help me at all, though YMMV. I'm not a fan of it's smell and it feels like there's always some of it's residue left after I wash off.

Shave Secret works extremely well, at the cost of gunking up your razor and blade something fierce. It does not rinse out very easily, requiring you to change out the blade and scrub down the razor after each use.

If you use it at all, try it as an additive to your regular lather. Just a drop or two mixed in with whatever soap/cream you like will add to the slickness and glide factors.

I don't think you need any special products to trim up around your goatee. I just do mine as a regular part of my shave routine, and never have any problems getting a good close trim around the edges. I use some electric clippers about every 2 weeks to take down the bulk and thickness of the goatee, but the edges get maintained during the course of a regular shave.

I tried it, and wasn't impressed. It did gunk up my razor to the point that my Fatboy's doors wouldn't open! I may use it in an emergency.

yup gunk up is what it does best. mine just sits idle. i am going to try the tip above about adding it to your lather. so it might get used again

Saw this stuff the other day at the store and was considering trying it out. Thanks for the input guys, going to steer clear of this one.

i've added bout 10 drops to my Bigelow shave cream twice now and it's worked out quite well. makes the lather super slick! but once the bottle is gone i doubt i'll buy another since thats all its good for.
