The Ryder Cup 2012

I can imagine I am not the only person in this community who is more than a little bit excited about the start of the Ryder Cup on Friday.
Team USA versus Team Europe.
24 players all in the top 35 of the world rankings.
Woods, McIlroy, Snedeker, Rose, Donald, Watson, Garcia, Mickelson, etc.
Mouth-watering doesn't even begin to cover it.

So let's have your predictions for the final score and the top scorer from each side.

I'm going 15-13 to Europe with Donald and Furyk top-scoring

I love golf. I love playing it but as far as watching it, not so much. I may watch a round here or there. Living in Chicago, a lot of hardcore golf fans, the media and of course the local busineses around Medinah are just estatic about the Ryder cup.

I've heard that you can't get a ticket or a hotel room within a 10-15 mile radius of the place. I'll watch some this weekend, but I won't be glued to the TV.

I think the Europeans have a pretty good shot at winning it again. The US just doesn't have a ton of young talent. They seem to roll out the same players for every team.

I actually think Team USA has a pretty good mix of old and young. Its the first Ryder cup appearance for Snedeker, Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley and Dufner. Bubba, Kuchar and Dustin have some previous experience. And then the likes of Tiger, Phil, Stricker etc have been there multiple times. It looks to me that USA should be able to put up a fight and make it interesting. Overall, I still think the Europeans will take it.

I am watching Browns/team stealing purple wearing puppy kickers right now, otherwise my interest this week is Ryder Cup. I think it will be intense, the course shouldn't be set up to favor either side, so it will come down to a few shots on either team. Should be a great match though.

Watching Sky Sports (obviously pro Team Europe) has had me aware of the Ryder Cup for weeks now. I think Europe will win again, but it's always been stacked against the US hasn't it? The top talent of several countries against one. So is it really "bragging rights" (as Sky terms it) if Europe wins yet again?

I'm hoping Europe will win it again but USA look very very strong this year. Plus home advantage. Gonna be great either way!

That is an interesting point, but a win is a win. Both sides agreed to this format, so I don't think a Europe win is diminished any more then a US win is magnified.

I don't play golf (no patience!) but I am always interested in the Ryder Cup, and if it wasn't for the time zones I would be watching it this weekend. A lot of my mates are golfers and the perceived wisdom is (a) it's going to be close - that is a surprise (not!) and (b) they all expect the US to edge it. As a Brit, I hope they are wrong...

If you look at total population then, yes, Europe has about a 2.5:1 advantage but if you look at the population of golf-playing nations in Europe, it's more even.
Of course it used to be USA vs GB&Ireland and we got tonked nearly every time! Our 5 continental friends in this Ryder Cup are more than welcome to help out!

That was some golf being played, I loved Bubba asking the crowd to cheer during his drive. I have decided that I will go to a Ryder Cup match in my lifetime. I am working all weekend, but I should be able to catch the highlights and maybe get some DVR'd.

Agreed, seeing the crowd so fired up each day has made me vow to do the same thing. I keep commenting to my wife how fun it is to see the crowd and the players pumped up. (Even if it is Poulter lighting it up yesterday)

I can't believe the US has allowed Europe to climb back. Stricker just lost the 17th hole, and needs to win the last hole to give Woods a chance. Its backs to the wall for the US right now.
