The reliable Flair Tip Superspeed

I have several outstanding DE razors; a Murkur Slant, a Fatboy adj., a Slim adj., a customized New long comb; but I can always count on the Superspeed for a good shave.

I may be prejudiced as you can tell by my user name, but I have to agree with you.
Built like tanks
Shave like a dream

Even emulate the high end razors, as the Red Tip has a head similar to the Aristocrat.

Yep.
Superspeeds. Can't go wrong there my friend!!!

And all this time I thought you liked the guy that did maintenance on the apartments in your building. :biggrin1:

There's a reason they made the Superspeed so long and sold so many. Good shavers all.

I love the Super Speed, but I like being able to adjust the Fatboy for different parts of my face.

Who doesn't love a Super though? :batman:

+1..... Well said Phil...one great razor.

I feel the same way guys. I don't own as many razors as some guys on this board, but I do have my share, and out of all of them, my late 40's SS is the one that occupies the medicine cabinet.

I now have in my inventory 13 Gillette TTOs and I have shaved with all of them but I can still rely on my first, a birth year (1954) Z1 Flare Tip, for a super shave. It has the right weight, balance, and aggressiveness to give me an enjoyable shaving experience. I broke into DE wetshaving and honed my skill with this one. Maybe that's why I have such confidence in it.

I must be doing something wrong cause my flare tip SS eats through my face like a pit bull. Every other week I think, "It must be my technique" and I give it another shot and always blood

What blade are you using? Can you post photos of the blade in the razor?

What's your normal razor/blade combo?

Is the safety bar bent or damaged from a possible drop?

It's over a year since I last tried out a superspeed. I wasn't that impressed but then I only ever tried it with a Derby blade which I've now more or less forsaken....

Perhaps I should try it again.

I'd go for it. I hadn't used my SS in months, tried it again last week, haven't even moved any of my other razors since!

So far I've used a feather, derby, gillette bleue extra and gillette 7'oclock yellow in the SS. When I get home I'll post a pic of the head w/blade. I honestly haven't taken a close look at the safety bar so maybe that's what the problem is.

The superspeed is a great razor! My first introduction to wetshaving was with a Futur and it was a nightmare!!! If I hadn't found a lowly superspeed for a few dollars at an antique shop, I would have abandoned shaving with a DE razor. While I don't use it as often anymore, it is only because I've acquired some others that I having been trying out. But it remains one of the best for me.
