What's new

The Nexus 5 is here

Android fans got a nice Halloween treat when Google anounced the Nexus 5 phone running Android 4.4 nicknamed Kitkat. Below is a quick breakdown of the phone by Android Central. Cool thing is that it can run on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint out of the box (No Verizon).

Comes in black or white.
Prices- $349.00 (16gb) $399.99 (32gb).

I too bought mine as soon as it was announced and it shipped yesterday. I should has it in hand by Thursday. Love my Nexus 4, can't wait for my 5.

I have an older Nexus S 4G, and while I like the concept of the Nexus family concerning ease of rooting/hackability and openness, the lack of expandable storage just kills me.

Why? They have a 16 and 32g models. What could you be doing that 32g isnt' enough storage?

Yea, I don't understand anyone complaining about no sd card slot anymore. My galaxy s2 has 16gb, and my last phone barely had any room at all. I still have an SD card in my galaxy, though I'm not sure why.

As a prepaid user (AT&T) the Nexus 5 is Great! Maybe in a year I will get one (new) if they are still around. I can't buy a phone 'till Otterbox makes a case... :)

Do you guys have experience with no contract plans? I am very tempted to buy the Nexus 5 for $349 and bring it to ATT prepaid. I heard you can BYOD (Bring your own device) to the goPhone plan which has unlimited talk, text, and 2 GB of 4G LTE for $60 a month. Pretty nice compared to the $70 I am paying on Sprint for "unlimited everything". Sprint's network is a joke where I live. I have very little service at work and just a tad better service at home. The only thing that keeps me is the Free mobile to mobile minutes.

AT&T is fantastic where I live but I don't want to pay over $100 a month for service. What do you guys think?

I can say one thing, this thing is light weight. It's narrow and tall. Feels very light compared to the N4 that has a bumper case.

Almost the same size length and width as the N4 but with hardly any bezel on the sides. BEAUTIFUL screen that seems even bigger with the background extended top to bottom compared to the black bars on 4.3.

Kit Kat is SWEET and the 'OK Google' voice search is smooth and smart.

Do you like the "Panda" version (White back / black front)?

I keep a lot of music, videos and pictures (I have a 4 year-old), ebooks, and a movie or two on my S4. 16g w 5g free and a 32g SDcard with about 10g free.

While at work I don't have access to wi-fi, so if I want to listen to music and don't want to run through my data allotment, I have to have it downloaded. I enjoy the flexibility that an SD card provides.

I think microSD cards are overrated on smartphones. I currently have a Galaxy S2 over the past two years. I've had a microSD in the slot since day one. I kid you not, the SD card is lucky if it lasts 6 months without becoming corrupted. It doesn't matter the memory size (8, 16, 32 GB), brand name (Patriot, Samsung, SanDisk), or what class speed it is (Class 4, 6, 10).

My last SD card crashed 6 months ago. I haven't had one since. While I like the option of having expandable memory at will, I feel better off without it because of the extra expense of having to re-buy one every couple months.

Check it out. :badger:

Hey all :biggrin1:

My Nexus 5 arrived yesterday, and I love it. Previously I was running a Sony Xperia Z which, although it was their flagship device in March, wasn't quick enough for me so within about a month I'd rooted it and flashed CyanogenMod. I decided that I really couldn't be bothered with the constant checking for updates and then, more recently, the changes within CM after they went Inc., so I wanted a vanilla Android phone.

Then the N5 rumours started.

Well, it was worth the wait! I've got the black 32GB model, and it's the fastest phone I've ever used. Everything is like lightning, and because I got on the whole Google bandwagon early, I'm invested in pretty much all their apps. And it all just... works.

I'm going to try and bait an Apple fanboy at work later and see how it compares against the iPhone 5S. I don't expect any trouble!
