It's the great depression again. You're riding around with your family in your overloaded truck. You need a good shave so that you can have a shot at a job. Do you want:

a) The latest multiblade with your last $25 8-pack of refills

b) A Bic lighter so you can just burn the beard from your face

or

c) A DE handle with 50 blades, and a pocket sharpening stone

Would a straight razor be good? Sure, but instead of being able to barter away some extra blades, you would have to shave some stinky SOB's for trade

Assuming I am well versed in how to use the straight, it's probably the best option. Give the right tools one can keep it sharp forever, and never have to spend another dime.
