What's new

The end of Super Iridiums.

It would seem the rumors are true.

On ebay all sellers of Iridiums are no longer advertising except one.

A couple of vendors web sites show Iridiums are no longer available in bulk lots.
One vendor who last week was selling blades in lots of 50, 100, and 250 is now only selling packets of 10 blades for $6.44 - shipping is additional.

Seems the the new gold is called Iridium.

I'm worried about how this bodes for the Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edges and the Super Stainless blades. I might have to stockpile them.

Can anyone provide any LEGIT proof of their demise? It's all hearsay from what I have read.

It's possible that any production suspension is due to allegations of health and safety violations. P&G has been accused of workplace "violations" in the Dzerzhinsk and St. Peterburg plants. A shutdown to either move facilities or deal with such "violations" is possible. I won't get into the politics of the situation for the moment but information on this has been published in the Moscow Times very recently. I will admit this is speculative so please don't take this as a definitive answer.

...and here is why I now will never buy from him. Greed in front of customers is a killer. He just pulled them 5 minutes ago. Hope he makes those extra few dollars but suffers long term.

[snip link to filtered vendor]

Not to stick up for a filtered vendor, but isn't that what everyone else is doing too? Shaving.ie (who's well liked & respected in this community) has raised their price to $5.48 a pack, not including shipping, and doesn't offer any bulk options any more.

Bullgoose still has them for $34/100 -- that's probably one of the better prices you can find at the moment, if you're looking for a last-minute fix.

Obviously, not EVERYONE is doing it!

its ashame to hear this.
i never tried iridium but i'm more concerned about the rumor about the manufacturing plant and how this could affect the other Russian-made blades.

Shame these are my #1 blade out of my sampler atm. I almost bought the bulk deal at Shaving.ie awhile back but thought I'd wait until I'd tried all the blades out then decide. Maybe they'll be back before I'm ready to order or I'll find a better blade before then.

As of yesterday WCS had them for the same price as well...$34/100.

Interesting... But isn't the plant where the SIs are made the same one as where any of the Russian-made Gillettes and countless other DE blades are made? Would a work stoppage imply that production of MANY other blade types would be affected?

Sweet Cripes, it IS the SHAVEPOCALYPSE! :thumbdown

Yes, I believe if this plant closes the world supply of glue will increase dramatically.

As I understand, the plant manufactures the following:

Iridium
Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge
Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless
Astra Superior Platinum
Astra Superior Stainless
Astra Keramic
