What's new

The cherry on the Sunday cake

Hi folks,

A month of DE wet-shaving is behind me, and it sure is the perfect way of starting the day. I've added 15 extra minutes to my morning routines, but it really pays back. It's a slow way of waking up, very refreshing with scents, fine rituals and beautiful, practical objects to handle.

My shaving process has quickly established into something like this: Hot shower with face wash (and a root face scrub every 3rd/4th day). Then I massage a few drops of shaving oil into my face, while it settles I whip up the lather. I have a couple of soaps and a cream, and alternate between them. Then I do the three-pass shave, rinse with hot water between every pass and end with a cold rinse. A nice after shave balm finishes the ritual (I have quite a few to select from since I like to vary the scents from day to day).

The procedure is quite standard, I know, but I give it all the time it needs every morning which adds to the meditative aspect of it.

Now, what I'm looking for is that little extra. During weekends I basically have all the time in the world, and I'd love to add something more to the morning routine, in order to celebrate the days off. I'm simply wondering what I could do to further elevate the shaving experience. Some of the ideas I've been pondering include a morning sauna (I have a sauna in my house), and/or a shaving scuttle. Hot face-towels? A face massage from the missus (if she agrees to it, that is...!).

Any ideas or personal favorites you'd like to share with me would be more than welcome.

Cheers,

Mike
