In my opinion, there is nothing humble about the Gold Dollar. I wss recently gifted a Gold Dollar and have been nothing short of impressed. Yes, they are different from my vintage straights, but not shabby at all.

Many denigrate Gold Dollar SRs based only on what they have read from people who only experienced GDs from years gone by. Other are just Sinophodic.
