Thater 4125 2-Band. Size 2 in a Fan or Size 3 in a Bulb?

What do you guys think? Differences? Advantages? Anyone who has tried both and has one that they prefer..... opinions are welcome.

I'm considering the same question but with the 4125/1... I think I'm opting for bulb because the loft is a little taller then I'd want for that knot size and I want to ensure some backbone. A very attractive brush indeed.

I like the knot dimensions of the 4125/1 as well, but I recently acquired a SR 3824 and a Blonde Badger with about the same dimensions as the 4125/1. I've avoided the big, pillowly, cloud-like brushes because I've always kind of thought they were a bit specialized and lacked versatility.... but in the last few weeks I've added 5 brushes to my collection, including 2 boars with another boar on the way, so versatility of one brush isn't so much a priority anymore. BAD is bad right now.

Neither-I would get size 2 in a bulb!! My 4125/2 fan is wonderfully soft but close to being floppy IMHO. I so wished I had selected a bulb shape instead.

If I got a Thater.... there's a part of me that would want it to be a bulb simply because that's more what the German brushes are known for while the English ones are known for their fan shapes. I'm also finding though that I don't particularly like a floppy brush.

Thäter means bulb... Fans only exist for the NA market ... Never have seen them offered in Europe as regular production brushes...
Size 0-2... I would not go larger...

Thanks for the information! Well.... I guess that answers that question.... if I were to go with a Thater it should be a bulb shape knot. That would only be fitting  .

Just to clarify: the translation of the word Thäter is not "bulb". What I meant is that Thäter brushes are traditionally bulb shaped.

I figured that's what you meant. I know it's the guy's name. I just know that the German brushes were traditionally bulb shaped rather than fan shaped.... I like the idea of sticking with tradition since I have no real preference one way or another for fan or bulb.

Ben,

Did you end up getting the 4125 2-band? Bulb? Which size? Still have it? Happy? Too floppy? Any feedback or advice a year later?

I didn't even know they came in fan. In any case I have a size 2 bulb that's just perfect for me. I can't imagine anything bigger, although I know some love really large brushes. So it comes down to which you prefer. Shavemac and Thater are both kind of known for their bulb shaped knots. If you want the"classic" Thater then go for the bulb. If you lover fans, then go for that.

FWIW, I've had a 4125-1 two band bulb. Twice. I've let both go. They didn't have enough backbone for my preference. Perhaps its because of my long-term use of Simpsons two band brushes.
