What's new

Thanks all, I may get this yet

I really appreciate all the encouragement and tips i have been receiving, it really was a breakthrough day for me today. i finally relaxed and got in to the flow and was able to shave my whole face. this was probably my sixth shave and i have been generally shaving my cheeks only and playing around with other areas to begin to figure out angles and such. decided to spend the time today to cover the whole face no matter how long it took. I finally started taking confident strokes and with the success i got it really kept the momentum rolling and i got a great feel for the blade. It took about 4 passes all wtg but in the end i was able to wrap it up without using my DE. I guess what really pleases and confuses me is that the smoothest parts of my face are my upper lip and chin which i gather from reading here can be the worst areas to shave, I must be blessed with good terrain to shave in these areas. well enough raving and thanks again, sorry but it seems that you will have to wait for the bargain Le Grelot to show up on BST for a while.

Good stuff!

Keep reading the tips and watching the videos, because you'll often pick up a point or two...

But when it comes right down to it, everyone's face is different. There's no universal approach that works for everyone.

You just have to keep practicing, and learning how to shave YOUR face.

Mike

P.S. Try not to think of one brand of razor as being a cure-all. I've had $20 razors of unknown brand that out-shaved big-name $250 razors.

thanks guys, shave 8 today and i may have jumped the gun on the chin part, i did not cut it but i scraped it enough times to may it plenty sore. the rest of the face is improving albeit very, very, very slowly. but still moving in the correct direction. it seems the razor is finally losing some of its sharpness even though i feel my stropping is acceptable, it is hard to tell without knowing exactly what is correct. i suppose 8 shaves in a new guys hands can be pretty hard on an edge so i think i will give the finishing stone a try in the not too distant future.

A good stropping session might bring it back a bit. 100 on linen and 100 on leather works wonders for me. Light strokes.
