Those crystal/rock deodorants are basically Ammonium Alum or Potassium Alum.
Any natural store should carry them. Some pharmacies have them as well.

Yes, the main ingredient is exactly the same. the thai deos may add aloe but this is of no concern as far as shaving purposes (and is good for your skin anyhow). As noted, much cheaper than the "official" alum shaving block. and the deo packaging (twist up tube) is much more convenient anyhow. win-win all around.
The potassium alum are the ones you'd want to use after shaving. Ammonium alum are harsher... it'll burn a lot. Trust me on that one. But they work great as a deodorant.
The Thai Crystal brand that the OP mentioned are made from potassium alum.
Both work the same (it's the "alum" part of the molecule that gives the desired effects for shaving and for deo). Tho, since they are technically, slightly different, one may work better than the other or feel different (burn or less burn) depending on individual use and body chemistry. Thai and similar are available in both versions. All that said, I find the potassium version more effective for shaving and for deo.
If you're going to use one as a deodorant, you'll want another block for your face. Do NOT pay more than $10 for it as there are plenty of places to buy them for less. AoS and a few others charge $20+ for the same thing.
