Testing out a hybrid 2012 r41 with edwin jagger de89 cap (photos)

So I really like the r41, just wish it was a tad less aggressive at times, so I am going to try using the open comb head of the r41 with the cap from the de89. I took photos of both with a wilkinson sword blade for reference. You can see with the de 89 cap(on right) there is just a little less blade exposure but still plenty. It fit together very well....The angle of the blade did not look like it changed. The heads are very similar, a little steeper and wider on the de89. I will give it a test run tomorrow

Good luck to you. i tried that some time last year and it didn't work out very well for me. Hence, no more R41 in my rotation. Best of luck to you.

I tried it and it ended up feeling the same, not much of a difference if any...

Typically it is the base that makes the difference as it is that part that sets the blade curve and blade distance from the safety bar or comb.

The cap is just there to keep the blade from falling on the ground :001_smile

I notice the difference...I normally use an EJ89 top cap on my R41 bottom plate and handle. Still a close shave with just a bit of the edge off the R41. I think the EJ89 cap bends the blade more, just enough to make a difference. The R41 is not my everyday setup just use it now and then.

This is my experience as well. Tried it last year and nothing spectacular happened. Still, less aggressive than original R41.
