Television oddball...

Fridays are Fishtastic!
I am probably the last person on this site to finally get a high def tv. Our bedroom TV was a 37 inch Sony Triniton- top of the heap in its day. Well, I just got my first modern television. So, being the manly man that I am (yeah) I jerked up that 190 lb monstrosity up, and somehow managed to get it to the curb without dying (yet). My new 37 inch TV weighs 29 lbs- ain't technology great? The living room TV is a 49 inch CRT- think I had better get the son in law to help with that one :001_smile

No you aren't the last. I still have my Sony 21" wide screen CRT, non HD. Works just fine and is plenty big enough for my main telly. If I had one as big as your bedroom TV, I'd have to sit in the other room to watch it!

Don't have one in the bedroom anyway as I go there to sleep!

I have a Sony 34 in widescreen CRT in the family room that is starting randomly decide that it is tired and shuts itself off to rest for a half hour or so. It is approx 220 lbs, but that isnt the real problem.

The real problem is that it has no grab points built in and the weight is all in the front with the glass tube. When it was purchased; two burly delivery men struggled to get it unboxed and placed into the stand. I moved it once when I swapped out the first stand that was buckling under the weight - it was a a close call that day.

When it finally gives up the ghost, I think that I will pay to have the "setup & removal" service. I will need to have some folding money on hand to tip out those poor guys

We have a 54 inch plasma in our one bedroom apartment haha. Needless to say we never go to the movies anymore which has paid for the tv a few times over.

We only have one TV.
A 27 inch CRT bottom of the line Sharp.
We do have a PVR and digital programming with HD, but no big fancy TV.
oh and we still have 2 VCR's that work.

Our TV works just fine. No need for a new one yet.

I had a Sony Wega, it was the heaviest TV I have ever lifted in my life. Usually I can handle them by myself. This thing was a monster. I even did a quick google search and other people have said the same thing. When I got my HD TV, I moved it to the bedroom by myself. It is sitting on the floor unused. One day I might just take it apart and bring it to the curb a piece at a time. The new Tvs are great, mines nothing fancy basic 32 in HDTV, but I bought an Xbox 360 and needed to upgrade the tv, because I couldnt read the writing on a SDTV

My 73" Mitsubishi DLP TV weighs 90 pounds. I got it down the steps by myself and my wife and I lifted it up onto the stand without issue. I'm hopefully giving away an old 27" CRT TV that probably weighs more than the 73" does...

When I used to work at best buy MANY years ago I remember those things. Never sold one while I was there.

I still have my 21" or so Panasonic in my room. I've thought about trying to find a computer monitor that also has a TV tuner or a small enough TV that can double as a monitor so I can just use 1 thing for both and free up some space.

not such an oddball... I got my first 32" flat a few weeks back when the 27" CRT VDU in my bedroom finally bit the dust. (which now doubles as a monitor for the computer in the bedroom.. VLC is SWEET using a tablet to control it!) Our livingroom still has a similar SONY VDU in it... Now, in all fairness, I've got a DLP projector that I use for watching movies sometimes.. but mostly, I watch HULU on my 25" monitor in the office... Our family room is taken up with a pool table, and the kids leave enough of a mess in the livingroom that I just don't have the energy to get mad about it all the time, so I don't go in there a lot. My office chair is more comfy ANYWAY. :)

I stepped into the world of flatscreens about 5 years ago. I had my old Sony HD 42" tube style HD in the garage until a month ago. It took three of us to get that thing in the back of a truck, I swear it had to weigh 300 lbs! I'm still amazed at how light the new TV's are, but keep in mind the first "color" TV I saw was a Curtis/Mathis console TV that was a piece of livingroom furniture going about 400lbs for a 19" screen. When that burned out, you could set the 13" black and white TG&Y television on top of it!

I used to work at Best Buy's photo studio. The 32" Sony Triniton that I had to move from set to warehouse, and back to set, was nicknamed "the Widowmaker."

Televisions sure have come a long way.

I still have an old 32" Toshiba in my living room that must weigh 150 pounds. I also have a 37" Vizio flat screen downstairs, but that one, which is only a couple of years old, already has several brown patches on the screen. I'm waiting until one dies or my wife complains before I replace them.

I have a Sony Bravia in the living room but by bedroom still has that tank of a Trinitron also. Unless you have a hand cart or something there is no lifting that thing in my house. I hate when my wife asks me to move that thing

I still vividly recall a clerk at Sears giving my father the spiel on a set that had a remote when it was time to get a color set for the living room. I believe the remote was a tuning fork based device.

He asked the clerk how much it cost, and when informed, he shook his head and said "I don't need a remote. I've got five boys".

The idea of getting off the couch to select between four available channels would strike my kids as being positively barbaric.

The first VCR my dad bought had a wired remote. You would spend more time untangling the remote than if you just got up and controlled it yourself.
