Tech dates

Can someone explain how to determine the year on them? I see some that have NO date code and that somehow corresponds to pre-1951, but the date guides online all show a date code starting in 1939....what is the deal?

I believe the earlier date codes were for Gillette blades.

+1 on what Joe indicates above . . . I have read that same information before . . . I think it was the Adams book or maybe Krumholz.

Basically on pre-1951 (no date code) Techs, the two possible ranges are 1939-1945 (triangle shaped relief slots behind the bar on the guard plate) and 1946-1950 (rectangle shaped relief slots.)

Some feel the earliest are a little more aggressive than the later ones, but I have found all Techs that I've tried to be mild and predictable . . . I don't have one in rotation because I prefer a more aggressive performer . . . but everyone should have at least one in collection! :thumbup1:

This seems as good a place as any to post this, since I'm having the same issue as far as identifying this razor I picked up at a garage sale.

Judging from the pics linked above, I'm pretty sure it's a ball end tech, but I can't seem to get an accurate date range for it using the Mr-Razor's pic there.

I stuck one of my own online to see if any of you have some suggestions.

Thanks!

I would like to know too !!

I recently got this and it is already my best shaver fighting with my feather portable for the # 1 spot. They are mild and that makes them very fast shavers !!
