Taylors Colognes - Descriptions

I am curious about TOBS colognes and would like to give one a go. However, I can't seem to get a good idea of what several lines smell like.

I am particularly interested in learning more on:

-Mr. Taylor

-Shave Shop

-Eton College

Are there colognes that smell similar to any one of the above? Any descriptions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

RR

The Taylor Fragrances

Eton College Collection
Inspired by the tradition of Eton, England's premier college of royalty and the aristocracy, and especially formulated for its Gentlemen, this collection possesses a fresh invigorating fragrance combining sparkling citrus oils with rich woody undertones to enchant the senses of the young and the young at heart.

Mr Taylor Collection
For generations, discriminating gentlemen have selected this crisp and spicy fragrance in which Tarragon, Lavender and Incense combine with hints of Green Galbanum and Citrus for an elegant manly scent and a warm, woody drydown with traces of Cedar, Sandal, Patchouli and Musk.

Sandalwood Collection
From the mystic east, we take a complex rich woody blend of exotic sweet scented Sandalwood and Cedar, add Lavender and Rosemary with subtle floralcy and Jasmine and Rose, for a vivacious, enticing, confidently masculine bouquet.

St. James's Collection
A masculine, fougere with citrus ozonic top notes of Bergamot and Mandarin combined with crisp herbs. Heart notes utilise florals, fruits and spices on a base of Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli and Musk.

Shaving Shop Collection
Revitalising fresh Citrus traces blend vigorously with the sophistication and ruggedness of precious Cedar and Oak woods. Add virile undertones of musks over a floor of Sage, Rosemary and Petitgrain for an alluring composition that stimulates the senses and excites the emotions.

Lavender
To the truly discerning gentleman, nothing surpasses the superior floral perfume of English Lavender, freshly picked at its peak from Norfolk Lavender, England's Lavender Farm, or the relaxing and soothing effect it imparts.

No.74 Original
A floral cologne fragrance with top notes of orange, bergamot and lemon with a background of lilac, jasmine, rose and sweet musk.

No.74 Victorian Lime
Citrus, lime, woody, fuschia

The only one that I have is Mr. Taylor, and the only scent that I could compare to it so far is T&H Grafton. I do like the Mr. T :thumbup1:

Hope that helps.

I have seen these descriptions before but for Eton & Shave Shop; they don't mean much.

Thanks. I have tried Grafton... so this gives me a good idea of Mr. T's scent. Sounds good.

Now I need to get a better idea of Eton & Shave Shop.

Cheers,

RR

I see the TOBS Mr. Taylor and T&H Grafton connection a fair amount and it puzzles me. I've got the AS version of Mr. Taylor and I've got a couple of samples of the Grafton cologne. To my nose, the two are very different. The Mr. Taylor AS I have is very, very spicy whereas the Grafton doesn't really have any noticeable spiciness. The Mr. Taylor SC, on the other hand, is almost a dead match for the Grafton line. But if the cologne version of Mr. Taylor smells like the aftershave, then it is quite different from Grafton.

As to the other two ... I only have them in the AS versions, but I think they are supposed to be the same, only less concentrated, as the colognes. To me, they don't really smell like any other cologne I've tried. But the TOBS descriptions are pretty accurate to my experience. Shaving Shop is a nice citrus blend over some woodsiness (primarily cedar). And the Eton college also has a nice citrus head note with some underlying sweater notes. Both are quite good.

I bought a bottle of TOBS Mr. Taylor cologne thinking (hoping) it would smell like the SC, BUT NOOOOOooooo. It's COMPLETELY different. I'm dissapointed in TOBS for not giving it a different name altogether. The Mr T Cologne smells a little like Guerlain Vetiver to me until it opens up. The Mr T SC DOES however smell like T&H Grafton Cologne.

The Eton College description is pretty much spot on. I would call it a rather intense blast of citrus with a bit of wood. Haven't found anything else quite like it. It can be very strong, so if you get it, I would suggest that you go pretty light, (one spritz or only a few drops, depending on how you apply your cologne) since it can be very intense and overpowering if you use too much.

However, since I have found nothing like it, I almost always get some kind of reaction or comment (positive) when I wear it.

Does anyone know if Shave Shop smells like the cream? I have had and love the smell of the cream but am leery about going for SS in either A-S or cologne.

They are definitely similar. In the aftershave, the citrus note of the cream is much more pronounced and well defined. The aftershave also has a very woodsy side to it. The primary note I get in this respect is cedar. To me, the cream completely lacks the woodsiness of the aftershave. So, there is definitely a family resemblance, but they aren't exactly the same.
