Lads, I thought I had seen everything with modern gun treatments. From the nauseatingly over used "tactical" label to all kinds of retro. This new Mossberg lever gun takes the cake. Mossberg introduced a very traditional Winchester styled lever action that most shooters don't even know about. In fact this ain't your pappy's Mossberg anymore. In addition to their traditional shotgun lineup they have introduced an AR clone, a bolt rifle utilising AR15 mags, and now this space age lever gun. I don't even know what to say about it. I bought my first black rifle this year, always been a fan of traditional with wood. Hmmm.... well that's all I can say. YMMV

Tells me Mossberg is desperate for sales. Has to be the most stupid idea of the decade. That being said I may buy one as they might become a collectible oddity and appreciate in price considerably. Then again, maybe not.

I spent quite a bit of time talking one of my younger colleagues out of buying a $4k Benelli tactical shotgun. He doesn't hunt, doesn't shoot and doesn't collect. Just wanted "a really good" home defense shotgun.

Is "tactical" the new "black"?

It LOOKS like a toy. Almost like a group got together and asked themselves, "What can we put on this perfectly good rifle to create a buzz?" I know I'm old fashioned, no doubt about that, but to me a rifle should look like a rifle. Metal and wood, requiring some attention in maintenance, thank you very much. It might be fun to shoot, though.

I actually kinda like it, I have a number of levers and my trusty model 94 is my all round get out of dodge gun.
Only complaint is that the rail system doesn't incorporate sights or optics. It's a shame that this gun (on first glance) can't incorporate a holographic sight or a red dot. Which IMO lend themselves real well to the traditional lever rifle.

Not at my house. My tacticool guns are FDE and OD and Electric Blue (as soon as the duracoat is finished). :wink2: :a41::gunsmilie: :biggrin1:

Even my bolt guns are non-traditional stocks. I guess I am not a gun traditionalist.

Despite that, they do look like guns. That thing is just plain wrong.

In one Simpsons episode, Homer is reunited with his long lost brother who owns a car company. Homer designs the new flagship car for the company. At the unveiling, well... it reminds me of that gun. Ewwwww!

I kind of figured I was not the only one that thought this is going to be a collectible some day. Here's the thing. I am not against black rifles. They have a place for sure. In fact, I have been daydreaming about a super light weight AR in a wildcat 6.5 Grendel necked up to 8mm(think modern 7.92 Kurz) and done up in hunting trim. No extra tactical crap on it. No iron sights, flash suppressors or any of that. Just a Picatinny rail to allow optics or ghost rings. Maybe British tan colour for the stocks and parkerised finish for metals. Utility all the way. With five rounfld hunting mags I bet you could keep loaded weight at seven pounds. Sort of a twenty first century answer to a 1894 carbine.

And being more traditional I want the buttstock to be a buttstock. I am not really disappointed in Mossberg. They are wisely updsting their product line without ditching their core products. This one is just weird. I have seen levers with black stocks on them. They were just normally shaped. I would suggest googling for Winchester pack rifle. They made these in the 1990s. It was a 1894 in .30-30 with 18" barrel, three shot capacity tube mag and super slim forearm. The things weighed about five and a half pounds. Why Winchester never brought back the 1892 short pistol length action I will never know. Cowboy action shooting being as popular as it is.
