Tabac Hair Cream

Me too Mike. I will see a member post from time to time that they bought this hair cream but I never see follow ups about performance. I have come close to pulling the trigger on this a few times but don't want to wind up with something sitting on the shelf unused. Hair products are a finicky thing for me. They usually either work or flat out fail.

I put in my order w/ Phil @ BullGoose for the Tabac Hair Cream.... Will review it after fair use...To "round out" the order I also purchased a DR Harris Pink Aftershave, DR Harris Almond Soap in Beechwood Bowl, Tabac, Palmolive, & Arko Shave Stick(s)

It is odd but in all my years with traditional products, I have only tried one of the items on your list, Arko stick. And it was a gift. Didn't care too much for it. I have Harris' other soap scents, I have their Arlington and Marlborough a/s splashes, but not pink! And I have never used the sticks you bought either. Just the Tabac cake which I suppose is the same. Good haul and I look forward to your comments on the hair cream.

It probably wasn't the very best idea to do so but I used the Tabac Hair Cream alongside 2 other interesting prestige products that had quite distinct scents on their own, DR Harris Almond Shave Soap, and DR Harris Pink Aftershave. What I mean is that each of these could be savored for their fragrance on their own but it surprised me that they actually all married together in a very pampered Gentlemanly way. I honestly felt as if I had been to a high end Barber Shop or perhaps one such as the Waldorf in Dublin after this late morning shaving/grooming experience.

I have been stuck it seems in a Fidelity of primarily using the same products day in and day out and perhaps with my wallets help, I have seen the light and will mix up my software on a more steady basis. Trying new products became foreign for me as I had thought I had reached pretty much the pinnacle of shaving and grooming experiences with my set up of the previous 10 months or so.... I was wrong. It feels so good to venture out and realize what a wide world of products we have available to us.

Now..... as for the Tabac Hair Cream after first use. The 3.4 ounce 100ml metal tube states; Tabac Original HAIR TABAC Haarcreme Hair Cream Creme Coiffante and has instructions in German English and French on the verso. "A small quantity of HairTabac Hair cream spread into the hair gives the hair-style a good hold." I used maybe a pea sized dab and spread it between my palms and applied to a towel dried head of salt and pepper hair. The fragrance of Tabac is evident but not overpowering. The "hold" is much like a Groom & Clean type product and it did give my hair a finished look and a shine. The scent remains but I'd suggest a subtle one indeed. As mentioned, I felt as I had just left a Barber Shop or Salon as it gave my hair a control and hold that you typically experience as you are leaving such an establishment. I will definately recommend this product upon first use and the price point of $10.99 prior to shipping from Phil at BullGoose is affordable and fair for a product such as this. I had been using for close to 10 months, the Jeris Hair Tonic but will utilize the Tabac Hair Cream now and see how I enjoy the performance.:thumbup1:

Thanks Mike! Glad to hear this works pretty well. It is not such an expense as to preclude buying it blind but it is nice to get some feedback.

Todd and other interested parties.... I have found that by cutting back my "dosage" to about half a pea sized portion, I have really seen this hair cream at it's best on towel dried hair (medium length businessman's haircut). I sacrificed a more potent scent but my hair looked less groomed and still had nice hold and scent. I will definately reorder this from Phil at BullGoose but I plan on trying some other tonics which I am interested in. To be determined...

I have never used American Crew and my only other hair dressing experience has been Jeris Tonic without oil which I liked fairly well. No other greasy kid stuff as they say.... The Tabac Cream is very nice on scent, shine, and hold in small amounts. My next purchases will be more Tabac Cream and obscure or luxury tonics to try perhaps from DR Harris.

Mike,

I was wondering if you ever ordered those Dr. Harris tonics, if so which ones and how you liked them?

Also curious if you tried using the tonic out of the shower and the tabac cream to finish styling.

Cheers,

David

David.... I've yet to order any DR Harris Tonic solely because I'm waiting for my preferred "stockist" to alert me to my requested said Tonic and Harris Lemon Cream Shampoo to arrive. I plan using it OR the Tabac Hair Cream... hadn't considered in tandam....might be extra nice indeed. For now however, I must say the Tabac product has been wonderful and receives daily use.

2011 is the "Year of Harris" for my household....... that is if I can convince my preferred "stockist" to broaden his Harris line.

My thoughts about using both stem from the nature of my hair. I have found it too thick to use only tonic to style - or at least the only tonic I have used (Vitalis) doesn't give me the styling I would like - so I have used Brylcreem afterwards. Having read your review of Tabac Hair Cream, I think I am going to try that instead.

I like the idea of the tonic adding both shine and scent to the hair, but I wonder if putting the Tabac on top would defeat the purpose?

You might just try the Tabac Hair Cream as a singular product. It offers considerable shine, hold, and a lovely scent. I purchased mine via Phil at BullGoose who comes highly recommended.

Base on what I read in this thread, I ordered a tube of Tabac hair cream yesterday.
I've been using pomade since several months - Royal Crown and Yardley Lavender - and I'm curious about hair creams.

I will look forward to your review. This is one of my personal favorite products.

Tabac scented Brylcreem. I enjoy this stuff but can't really use it everyday as the scent is so strong with even a minimal amount and lasts and lasts all day long. I use it once a week or so.

It's pretty good stuff. A bit thinner than Brylcreem means it goes in easier, but the effect is similar. You need about a pea-sized amount though or the mineral oil will take over.

I like it, too. I find it a little less shiny (greasy) than Brylcreem with just a bit more hold. It keeps hair in place without stiffness, say like a gel or pomade does.

So I tried the Tabac cream today.
Like some other B&Bers stated earlier in this thread, this cream gives a good amount of hold without that greasy feel you get when you use pomade or brilliantine in your hair. The scent is quite mild comparing to Tabac's shaving products, and this is a good thing since anything you want to put in your hair will likely last much longer than expected. If the cream's fragrance were as strong as in Tabac's AS the scent would stay forever on your scalp!

All in all it seems a nice product. I don't know if it outperforms my other pomades, but Tabac belongs in a different category (hair creams) and I guess it would be unfair to do such a comparison.
