T&H Ultimate Comfort change?

I just got an email from T&H saying their Ultimate Comfort shaving cream is back. I wondered to myself...I didn't know it went anywhere. They also offered 20% off. So I went to their website and noticed that it's being advertised as Unscented with no sight of the lavender scented one anywhere.

Does anyone know if they are discontinuing the slightly lavender scented UC shaving cream?

it is the same one, it was just out of stock at almost all retailers the past few weeks or so, very good stuff one of my favorites they call it unscented but you are right it does seem to have a faint scent of lavender

Yeah, it's always been called 'unscented' and has never been advertised specifically as lavender scented, despite its having a light lavender scent. It's a misnomer, but there you have it. They were out of stock for some time, why I don't know. I'm glad it's back. And thanks to that discount, the price is down nearly to what it was when it first came out, back when T&H was still a relative bargain among the premium English creams. Time to stock up!

As an aside, it will be interesting to see if Classic Shaving reduces its price back down to $30. During the shortage, they were one of the few who still had a supply, and they upped their price to $32 a tub. Gougers.

I'm hoping On the Fly will lower its price so I can get it with frees shipping.

Does T&H's website offer free shipping?

How does the "Ultimate Comfort" compare to T&H's regular line? I can't imagine buying an unscented cream, but that's all I saw on their site.

The Ultimate Comfort cream has the same ingredients as their regular creams in the same order, but in slightly different proportions. The big differences are that it has no color, no fragrance (except a little lavender essential oil), and a higher glycerin content, which makes the lather slicker and, imo, more conditioning. The cream is also more highly whipped, making it of a lighter consistency in the tub. I find it lathers excellently with the right technique, but I also find I require a bit more cream to make the lather I want. They really shouldn't call it unscented, because it's not. The lavender scent is very light and clean - one of my favorites, actually. It's good stuff.

Mike, I can't remember if T&H charges shipping, but I think they do (I briefly looked at their website and can't find any info on that). Also, I see no indications that the formula has changed. If you go look at the review thread that Joel started, you'll see reviews going back over three years with tubs marked "unscented." There was a slight packaging change a little over a year ago, but I've used the cream packaged both ways, and they are identical.

yeah there site charges shipping, they have several options ups ground being the cheapest, for anyone who wants the code for 20% the ultimate comfort shave cream it is UCTUB but offer ends 6/19/09, they ship out of Chicago and delivery is real quick with just ups ground also fyi ordered Wednesday and was delivered Friday on the east coast.

T&H is around £15 a tub here in London.

Not sure how much it would cost to post over to you guys though.

Those who want to pay the English price would probably do well to order from the The Gentleman's Shop, which offers a VAT-exempt price to non-UK customers, bringing the tub price to £13.04, or $20.80 USD per pot at the current exchange rate. TGS charges £9.50 ($15.17) to ship a parcel up to a half-kilo to the US. Anything over a half-kilo and they tack on an additional £5 ($7.98). Since T&H UC tubs are 165 grams, you might be able to get three tubs for the basic shipping rate, unless the parcel packaging bumps it up to over a half-kilo. (I guess the best course of action would be to contact TGS and find out just how many tubs equal a half-kilo parcel.) If you can get three tubs for the basic half-kilo rate, then the price per tub is $25.86 delivered. If you buy six tubs, that will bring the per tub price to $24.66 delivered, again assuming three tubs ships as a half-kilo. That's clearly a no-brainer if you have to pay $30 a tub in the US, with or without shipping.* Given T&H NA's current 20% discount, it may be a closer call, although once you factor in their shipping charge, it might still make more sense to order from overseas. Of course, that's at the current exchange rate. A couple years ago, when the pound was nearly two dollars, it wouldn't have made any sense at all. Thanks for the idea, duotone. You've given us Yanks something to think about.

* The prospect of paying duty complicates matters, but I've never had to pay duty yet on a package I've gotten from TGS.

Hello,

I'm afraid we discontinued stocking T&H Ultimate Comfort products six months after they ceased production. I cannot risk retailing old stock that is past it's sell by date and have nothing left.

Regards, Robert

Robert, thanks for the update. I guess we won't be ordering it from you, and would do well to get the 20% off discount while we can. Are you able to provide more details on the production stoppage? I didn't notice it until just the last couple of weeks, as my stash of the UC cream was such I didn't need to go looking for it. When I noticed it, I e-mailed Britney Jansen at T&H NA, and she just said it was back-ordered and that they were expecting new stock any day. She mentioned nothing of any ceasing of production. I'm curious to know the details. Please feel free to PM me if you wish.

T&H used to have free shipping. Not sure when it changed? They had free UPS ground for quite a while if memory serves.

Hello,

I posted on Tuesday that Ultimate Comfort has not been produced since 2007and is no longer available.

T&H London ring me on Wednesday to tell me that the complete range will be available in four weeks, slightly different packaging though.

Spooky!

We will stock the newly produced products asap, we sold as much UC as all the rest ogf T&H products combined.

Have a great day, Robert

What's up with T&H in general. Their products go in and out of stock with more frequency than other brands.

The 1805 was out of stock for about a month - then it was in stock for a couple of weeks - then it went out of stock for a another week...

Do they need better supply chain and inventory management?
