Swedes or not?

I also glossed over the SMF thread and, based on what I read, I think the verdict is really still out on whether or not they are the Swedes I have read so much about on B&B. It seems the consensus is that they are NOS French blades. Were they manufactured in the same plant and/or under the same standards? I have no idea....

That's very interesting, I have never seen them in the 10 pack, only the 5s. Also interesting that it has the "Oslo" address on the back, which is how I believe the original ones got the name "Swedes" in the first place.

I know that at some time the address had been changed up to the "Surrey UK" address, but they retained their "Swede" nickname. It's all so fascinating, isnt it?

I guess the proof will be in the shave!

These were the first "Swedes" I've seen at a reasonable price. I've never tried one, and I had half a notion to pull the trigger, but discussion here and at SMF has snapped them up in short order.

My most recent stash purchase was 100 Shark Super Stainless at a price less than half of these. They're the longest lasting blade I've tried, and smooth. I've had five great shaves with a Shark this week, going for a sixth tomorrow. Virtually the same Squire rating as a "Swede" too.

There's a certain collectible appeal about Annecy "Swedes" from another era, but I have enough blades stashed now to last about eight years. I could always add 100 Crystals or even Dorco 301's if the great shavepocalypse shows signs of lasting longer, or even more Sharks...

The Swedes that I fell in love with were in the 5 pack with the Surrey UK address. Mine came from West Coast Shaving as part of my letterk sampler.

Since I ordered 200 of these mystery Swedes, I'll let you guys know what happens. I still have a single "Surrey Swede," so I'll do a comparison. I'm *REALLY* hoping these are legit - I've been trying to find a blade that doesn't eat up my face.

Lots of men pay over $2 per blade. They're called Mach 3 users.

*shrug* For a simple luxury that makes your day better, it doesn't seem outrageous. At $1 per blade, if it lasts a week, that's 14 cents a day for painless shaving.

Maybe I'd feel better if I knew of another blade that I shaved with like the Swede. I haven't found one yet, but I also only have tried about half the usual culprits.

I got to know the lady selling these (Liz), it was me that advised her that if she wanted to sell more then she would have to offer shipping to the USA, because at first she only sold them to the UK.

i bought 500 from her, they shave lovely......and also i have 500 Gillette Bleues from her as well.

I also have 1 packet of original "Weybridge" swedes left, i can't tell a difference between them..

see extract from e-mail she sent me:

"hi Steve

Pity I could not get one or two boxes, as they are all gone.

Oslo is in Norway so I don't think that's how they got their names:a30:

Stockholm is in Sweden though... :wink2:

Pack looks like the ones one can sometimes find in Norwegian stores (5 packs only)
