suggestions on a new Simpson brush

I've read some good reviews on various simpson brushes and I'm considering adding 1 as the 2nd brush to my new collection. I haave a SR 3722 silvertip. Any feedback on which is preferred by you and why. I think I prefer nothing much larger than a 22mm knot, but share you're opinions so i can make a decision. Thanks in advance!:c2

A chubby 1 is a great soap brush. Many people around here like the PJ2, but I haven't tried it. The new 2-band hair is actually a pretty good deal, if you like a lot of backbone.

Be careful with the Simpsons. As much as I hate to say it, I picked up a Chubby 2 a couple months ago that has been consistently shedding four to six hairs per shave. I'm going to give it another week, and then I'll contact the vendor about an exchange.

Shame, because otherwise it's a wonderful brush. Scrubby, dense and a pleasure to hold. I'll probably ask for an exchange. If the second one sheds, I'll probably roll the cash into something else.

Don't get me wrong - I love the Chubby other than the shedding issue. If it weren't for that, it'd be just about the perfect brush.

Based on your request, a Chubby 1 would be great for you. Just beware of the shedders.

I vote Ehsan. Two Band Badger for $110, what's not to love? Not to mention it blows my Rooney 1/1 in Super out of the water the same way the Rooney beat the $25 Edwin Jagger Brush.

Shedders you can do nothing about...for every complaint here there might be another 50 satisfied customers. Its unfortunate but the forum magnify's the actual extent of the problem.

I have a few Chubby's none of which have shed. Luckily your vendor or Simpson direct will happily replace it for you, it happens, they are hand made products with many many thousands of hairs.

I think he could be right.

about the Ehsan? You know what's funny. My son's name is Ethan and I checked out that brush only because of the name, but since then I've been reading some wonderful reviews on it. Doesn't surprise me...:thumbup1:

Lets just say there isn't much between the X2L (Ehsan) knot and the Simpson 09 L.E knot plus another $150.

Okay they were bought for different reasons but you get the picture.

Is Ehsan Ethan in a different language or something? Sorry I dont see the connection especially as 40% of the letters are different.

I like the look of the current Dukes quite a bit. Probably a size 2 or 3 in best badger would be just right. I'm not a huge fan of the two banded super badger Simpsons is currently using. I had an Emperor 2 in two band and sold it off. I just prefer the best badger (as I also prefer rooney's super to their two-band finest).

something that I didn't see mentioned before was the knot shape. For the OP, that might be something to consider if you are thinking about the two band Simpsons. The bulb versus fan shapes. It something that is different that I am experiencing.

True. I do love the fan shape of my Rooney, but I have excellent results with the bulb shaped Ehsan too. Just takes a little getting used to.

1 letter is different. So that's 20%...and no I dont think it's his name in a different language, but unless i'm dyslexic the names do look similar. I guess I shouldn't have shared that on here. I didn't think it would ruin anyones day.:bored:

I took the advice of Antique Hoosier and after doing some research, picked up a Simpson 57 in Best (Shoebox Shave Shop). It has a good dense 22 mm knot and good backbone. The tips are scritchier than the Rooney Heritage Supers, but it lathers soaps very well. If you want a smaller knot, the 55 and 56 are 20 and 21 mm, respectively.

I am in love with my Duke 2 in best, although I wish I would have sprung for the Duke 3. The Duke 2 is a little on the small side, but is the perfect face latherer. I've used better bowl/cream brushes, but for face lathering creams or soaps I've never used anything like it.
