Just curious, do you gentlemen strop on linen and leather after honing or just leather? I know the standard for stropping after a coticule is linen and leather but was wondering what those that use other finishing methods do.
I don't know about what the gentlemen do , but I don't have any set pattern. I'm relatively new to the honing game (been using a straight for about a year), and I do strop in whatever manner tickles my fancy post-honing.
linen leather for me after a coticule, if I was using any kind of paste i'm sure leather would be enough...stropping linen cleans edge and prepeares for the leather , I think?
Depending on the stone and blade combination I use linen with paste then leather, or bare linen then leather. The leather may vary from a very heavy draw black latigo to a buttery smooth cordovan depending on the particular blade. In short, it depends, but there is always a happy ending.
So excited for my new tony miller linen/leather that is arriving today. What is the theory why linen is recommended more so after a coticule honing specifically? I had shaved twice straight from the coticule with my best edge to date and it was fairly comfortable three pass. Will this linen/leather kick that edge into a noticeably higher gear?
