strop

I just received my first str8 a dovo special, its shave ready, should I strop first, or is it ok to shave with. Also what type of strop should I start with

If it is truly shave ready, I wouldn't strop it first. You might start out with something inexpensive like a Filly from Ruprazor. I don't own one personally, but I've only heard good things about them.

I have a Filly and it's totally the way to go.
